Warnings: experiments (mentioned), bad parents, crazy Cecil as always, death, bullying (mentioned)
Authors note: I’m a fan of Mark Grayson. And I love Danny Phantom. And I just HAD to pair this shows up somehow. It’s not like Danny weren’t in every god existing fandom, right? It was supposed to be a series but I’m a lazy BUM. Also, how are we feeling about this new look?
Mark Grayson, who learns from Cecil that he has a younger brother whose existence he was unaware of. The first thought that crossed his mind was that his father had been unfaithful, but Cecil refuted that theory.
Mark Grayson, who becomes even more angry about the whole situation when he learns that it was an “experiment” in which Cecil’s people took DNA from his father and a female scientist at the lab—who was willing to participate—and created a human being. Not exactly a test-tube baby, since the woman did carry the child to term. Just so they could grow their own Viltrumite in the lab—one that wouldn't resist and would always obey orders. Without a doubt. Without a question.
Mark Grayson, who nearly strangled Cecil but held back only because—as Cecil went on to explain—the experiment had, to some extent, failed. Yes, they had managed to create a human being from viltrumite and human DNA, but the woman became attached to the child and refused to continue cooperating or participating in the experiment, so she ran away. Then they pretended to let her and the test subject go, but continued to keep an eye on them.
Mark Grayson, who had heard the story of how the boy was born and how his mother — a crazy woman, a scientist who believed in ghosts—turned out to have already been married to a like-minded man, and they already had a daughter. The man was even crazier than his wife. He told how both of the parents would constantly lock themselves in the basement of their own house and run experiments, creating new inventions to catch ghosts, and live inside their own little world while their daughter looked after her younger brother.
Mark Grayson, who breathed a sigh of relief when he learned that, despite everything, the boy had grown up to be normal—as normal as one can be with parents like that. He is now 14 (almost 15) years old and goes to school with his friends just like any other kid.
Mark Grayson, who also discovered that the boy lacked the potential for Viltrumite powers when scientists found out that, for some reason, Viltrumite DNA had mixed with human DNA and neutralized the part responsible for superpowers.
Mark Grayson was only too happy about this, since he didn't want his brother to suffer the same fate as he had, or to become a pawn in the hands of the organization.
Mark Grayson, who—before leaving—threatened Cecil one last time, telling him not to pull that kind of bullshit again and not to ruin the kids’ life, then flew to his mom’s house to tell her about his brother, whose existence he had only just learned about.
Debbie Grayson, who had listened to the story about the inhumane experiment and the poor boy and girl with anger and a mother’s righteous indignation, but told Mark that he shouldn’t scare the boy. It would be a huge shock for him, and she didn’t want the boy to have to go through that.
Mark Grayson, who looked down but nodded in agreement with his mother. He really shouldn't have any contact with his brother—even though he wanted it very much—because it would be a huge emotional blow to the child. I mean, who wouldn't go crazy upon learning that they were created in a lab using an alien's DNA—and that their mother agreed to it—only to end up as a mindless soldier for the organization? Thank God that didn't actually happen, of course, but the fact remains.
Mark Grayson, who disobeyed his mother and "just happened" to run into his brother while taking a walk near his brother's school. "It just happened by accident, I swear!" he kept telling himself as he chatted with his younger brother, and he told himself the same thing when he grew closer to him and started spending time with him often.
Mark Grayson, who loves his brother and is ready to protect him from the whole world if necessary.
Mark Grayson, who actually doesn't know much about you or your family.
You, who lived a more or less normal life,—if you don't count your crazy parents—went to school and had friends. Sure, one jock bullied you and his friends laughed at you, but that doesn't matter! You had loyal friends and a loving older sister.
You, who were happy with that kind of life and didn't want to change a thing. Well, except for becoming more popular and going on a date with your crush… but that's just typical teenage stuff.
You, who were in the basement with your parents, watching them build a portal to the other world. Listening skeptically to their stories about a breakthrough in science! About how they would finally be able to see, catch, and study a ghost! But wasn't surprised to see that the portal didn't even turn on.
You, who, watching your parents' backs as they walked away, decided to check for yourself whether it worked or not, put on a protective suit, went inside, and examined the invention. As you ran your hand along the cold, iron walls, you suddenly pressed a button by accident—and the portal sparked to life.
You, who died in this very portal. But not completely.
You, who woke up lying on the cold floor, feeling strange, as if you weren't supposed to be there. Alive. As you slowly stood up, leaning against the wall with your hand to keep from falling, your hand suddenly passed right through it. Like a ghost.
You, who were supposed to be dead but woke up in the world of the living, changed.
You, the one who became half-ghost. Defender of the world of the living, and king of the afterlife.
You, who hide your true self from your parents—you know they'll kill you.
You tried, honestly, to tell them about it—but, to no avail. The words of your friends and sister’s, along with your own assumptions, have led you to lead a double life.
You, who befriended an older teenager, Mark Grayson, and the two of you quickly became friends—without yet realizing how it would change your life.
But would it be for the better?
