Later that evening mother met Daniel and Ian Hartmann along with their son, Perry at the home where her mother grew up. She had never been to the house prior to getting it ready to sell. They had cleaned it up a little, but it still was far from habitable.

BETH- “Good evening, glad you all you could make it. There is electricity so we can take a quick tour.”

DANIEL- “Thanks for meeting us here. I know this was last minute, but I really wanted Ian to see the place.”

IAN- “So how long has this place been vacant?”

BETH- “Unfortunately about 30 some years. So the work that needs to be done is quite extensive. But at the price we are asking for it, you can get a renovation loan to do the work that needs to be done and still be above budget.”

DANIEL- “Anything beats renting, for sure.”

BETH- “Okay then let’s go inside and look around.”

BETH- “The main floor is quite large, and a couple of the builders we have on contract has said that most of these interior walls can be knocked out to give you a more open floor plan down here. There is a full basement as well.”

PERRY- “It stinks in here.”

DANIEL- “Perry, please. the house has been vacant for over thirty years of course it is going to smell.”

IAN- “So how is the plumbing and electricity? Is it all going to have to be redone?”

BETH- “Yes, most likely. Once you decide if you want to go forward with the project we will have an inspection done for you at no cost, as part of the project renovation. Ainsworth Real Estate is wanting to insure all the residents here in Founder’s Cove that we are committed to bringing this neighborhood back to it’s potential.”

DANIEL- “So there are two bedrooms and one bath upstairs, could an en suite be added to the master bedroom?”

BETH- “I am sure, the master bedroom is quite large actually. Let’s take a look.”

IAN- “I don’t know Daniel this looks like a lot of work.”

DANIEL- “That is why we pay someone else to do it all, Ian. So is the builders local?”

BETH- “Yes, Dawson Brothers is from here and are quite good and Fisher Builders is also a contracted building company contracted for these projects. I can set up a meeting with both of them. They can see what you have envisioned then prepare blueprints and then choose between the two as to which one you like. Before we go upstairs, let’s take a look out back. There is a nice size yard back there. It does need some cleanup, though.”

IAN- “Clean up is an understatement. This is like a junk yard.”

DANIEL- “Easily fixed, let’s look upstairs. I need to see the size of the bedrooms.”

After looking at the bedrooms upstairs, Daniel was ready to put in an offer.

DANIEL- “Okay Ms. Mahone, I really like what I see here. When can we place an offer?”

IAN- “Shouldn’t we discuss this first Daniel?”

DANIEL- “Of course, that is why I am not putting an offer tonight, I just need to know how much time we have.”

BETH- “I have another family coming by tomorrow evening to take a look, but if you want it, I would need to know before 6:00 pm tomorrow, or there would be a bidding war so to speak, best offer gets the contract.”

SEVERAL MONTHS LATER

The Old Molly House ( @kazuaru​) was re-envisioned by Daniel and Ian and the work completed by Colt Dawson and his team of builders. After the construction and decorating they invited Beth Mahone back for a small dinner to thank her for her help in acquiring the property.

Over on the North side of Brindleton Bay, the newly married Ian and Daniel Hartmann have adopted a child of their own.  A little boy named Perry.

PERRY- Play time now?”

IAN- “Sure buddy, come here and we can take a plane ride!!

PERRY- “WEEEEE!!  Up in the air we go!

DANIEL- “All set for take off, fasten your seat belts!”

IAN- “You ready Perry!?”

PERRY- Fly high up to the SKY!”

IAN- “Okay, coming in for a landing, Daddy Dan has lunch ready once we deaprt from the plane.”

DANIEL- “It’s your favorite!”

PERRY- “Macky Cheese!? and Boccolee!!”

DANIEL- “So I do not want to seem presumptuous, but I was wondering if you are currently single?”

IAN- “Yeah, I don’t seem to have much luck finding the right guy, so I have sworn of dating for a little bit.”

DANIEL- “Oh, I see.  Okay then.”

IAN- “Wait, why are you asking?”

DANIEL- “Again, I do not wan to seem presumptuous, but there is this big event for the police department, a gala so to speak.  It is to raise money to help the department and actually I think it is just an excuse for us to dress up and drink. But I do not have a date, and was hoping that----

IAN - ‘YES!!!  I will go out with you.”

DANIEL- “Okay, that was easier than I thought it was going to be. So this takes place the Saturday before Thanksgiving, and it is formal, so you will need a tux.”

IAN- “I have one, just for occasions like this. No worries.”

DANIEL- (laughs) “Okay, soooo..  I like you Ian, I think you are a good guy, and not had much luck with guys, and I want to get to know you better. I thought this was a good way to do that outside of work so to speak, even though it is a work event.”

IAN- “I was attracted to you the minute Mark and I walked into your office that day. I mean, you are very good looking and your ass...well”

DANIEL- “You are so funny.  You just say exactly what is on your mind don’t you?”

IAN- “Yes, and unfortunately that has caused for a lot of awkward situations over the years. but I am better than I used to be. But what I mean is, I am DEFINITELY attracted to you, and think you are very nice as well. But like I said I have a way of choosing the wrong guys.”

DANIEL- “Well, I am not going to drop a roofie in your drink, and I don’t have any hidden agenda, and I have no deep dark secrets lurking in my past, except for my son, who lives with his mother that I have every Wednesday night and every other weekend. So I think you are safe going to a Police Gala with me... and who knows, maybe if things go well, we can compare our asses....without the coverings.”

Seth and Mark decided it was time to take up Franklin’s invitation and went to the Bed & Breakfast out on the Island near the lighthouse for a weekend stay. On the second night of their visit, very late in the evening, they get a visitor back at their house...

(’doorbell rings”)

JACKSON- “Coming, be right there!”

DANIEL- “(To himself)  “Nice house, being a vet and a psychologist pay off!”

DANIEL- “Hi, you must be Jackson, I an Detective Daniel Hartmann, is your father home?”

JACKSON- “Well my father doesn’t live here, he lives on the other side of town, but if you are looking for my uncle Seth, he and Mark went away for the weekend.”

DANIEL- “Oh... okay then.”

JACKSON- “But, Ian is here, if you would like to talk to him?”

DANIEL- “Oh, that would be great, thanks.”

Just a few minutes later, Daniel rushed into the house and met Ian who was waiting for him to arrive...

DANIEL- “So are Seth and Mark, okay???!”

IAN- “It was Mark that got shot, They just left in the ambulance. Not sure how bad Mark is, but there was a lot of blood. Seth said he jumped in front of him to save him from being hit.  Seth said it was Jake, Daniel.  He said he recognized the voice.”

DANIEL- “Damn it!!  I knew it.  I knew that asshole would try something terrible, I just never thought it would be this.  Was the patrolman we had here get him?”

IAN- “Not sure, I was helping with Mark, but Jackson was out back just a little bit ago with one of the officers that showed up.

About that time, Jackson came running into the house from the back.

JACKSON- “Daniel!  You are here, one of the officers said that the police you had patrolling the area chased the intruder to the docks, they both took off in boats.  They have no where to go but to the Island, that is where my Uncle Royce and Franklin live, they own the B&B There, you need to get there!!

Jake is handcuffed behind his back and led closer to Daniel, who he now recognizes.

JAKE- “Go figure it’s you. You were the detective working with Ian, weren’t you!?”

OFFICER WALSH- “Don’t say anymore, Bowling, you were read your rights, anything you say now at this point can be taken as evidence against you.”

JAKE- “Trust me, I have nothing to say to either of you. Once I get my phone call, my attorney will do my talking.”

DANIEL- “You should listen to Julie, Bowling, this is not going to help your case.”

JAKE- “You know my past, for sure. You were working with Ian and Seth to help take me down. I didn’t rape him, he was the one that jumped my bones, it was consensual, trust me.”

OFFICER WALSH- “You should take my advise Bowling and shut up.”

DANIEL- “Those charges were dropped, but I can guarantee you that that episode will certainly be brought into your trial. Now, shut up like Julie said, and let’s get you behind bars, where you belong.”

JAKE- “Trust me, I won’t be there long. Then I will finish what I started here today.”

OFFICER WALSH- “Okay, we have heard enough, get going, you don’t listen do you? You just incriminated yourself even more. Let’s go.”

DANIEL- “Great job, Julie, thanks for getting this bastard.”
