An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
An interview held with Fatin Jadmani for the DAWN OF EVE trial case folder.
Or:
Fatin loves louder than most.
Let’s chat about Dean Young and Daniel Faber for a second.
As much as we talk yell about how the girls adhere to and subvert their stereotypes by putting on and removing masks, this trend doesn’t actually end with them. We see ample evidence throughout the show of others doing the same action. A key example of this is Dan and Dean, and interestingly they do it through clothing (which is something the girls have less of a luxury to do due to the constraints of Fatin’s suitcase).
In E1 we see Dan and Dean sitting down to prep for their interview with Leah. They chat about consciously choosing their clothing, Dean to reinforce his presence as a authority figure (suit and tie, going for a law enforcement look) and Dan in what I would call a psychiatrist 101 getup (sweater casual, but with an approachable vibe). In this moment, they are stating their roles as someone who is an authority figure (Dean) and someone who is supposed to be a gentler confidant (Dan). It’s important to note that we later see Dan switch his clothing (E8 for Shelby) to a suit and tie as well, looking to match his clothing to the situation.
While Dan and Dean play into the game around the performative aspects of clothing, their movements, motivations and actions contrast what they are projecting. Dean chose to play an authoritative role, and while we do think he has a law enforcement background, he may be the worst rule enforcer ever. He lets Leah out of her room, builds rapport with the girls, gets upset about the box with Martha’s things and advocates for the girls to see each other. Dan on the other hand, dismantles his persona of being an approachable and caring support by reinforcing his power in situations. He is harsh with some of the girls, tells Gretchen their overall goal is to imply guilt, does some pretty intense psychological pushing of Leah and repeatedly plays his hand as someone who is assuming things about what happened on the island rather than listening.
Both men slowly dismantle the facades they were projecting to both us (as the audience) and to the girls. And it’s honestly kind of cool. But also what a weird, sneaky subversion of good cop, bad cop too.
the wilds ask game!
Leah: something useless you’d bring to a deserted island
Rachel: something you want to achieve before you die (or get attacked by a shark)
Dot: something you’re weirdly terrible at
Fatin: something you’re weirdly talented at
Toni: something that gets you irrationally angry
Shelby: something people always (incorrectly) assume about you
Martha: something you want as a pet
Nora: something random most people don’t know
Gretchen: something you lied about
Young: someone you miss
Faber: worst thing you ever did (that you never got caught for)
Thom and Susan: some time you were a coward
Alex: something you regret
Marcus: something you like about yourself
With all disrespect, fuck Gretchen Klein, Dave Goodkind and Daniel Faber.

Okay but Daniel Faber? I loved him so much in the first episodes. You could've become another comfort character Daniel, why did you have to betray me like that??
Hi guys, this Tuesday night 'Little Theater' is playing at the revolver and Daniel Faber and myself are suporting him. I'm very excited as I will be playing percussion. https://www.facebook.com/events/443022842495160/?ref=2&ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming We are having our last practice tomorow night and I'll try and get some recordings of it up or at the very least some pics. We hope to see you there.
