Daniberry: âAt least breathe in between bites!â
Dani stared.
Rachel ate.
Dani smiled.
Rachel ate.
Dani checked her phone.
Rachel ate.
âAt least breathe in between bites!â
âErrumph?â
âIâm glad you like my cooking,â Dani said, grinning. âBut Iâm afraid that youâre going to choke if you keep inhaling it like that.â
âRightâŠsorry,â Rachel said. âBut Iâve never had Cajun food before we started dating, and frankly, I didnât know you could make vegan southern food.â
âYou canât,â Dani deadpanned. âThis hurt my soul a little. But as long as I can still have my shrimp poâboys and biscuits and gravy? Iâm cool going rogue for you.â

âBut where are the gender neutral products?â Dani made an outburst, groaning and slumping down on the handlebar of her shopping cart, âThis place is a nauseating combination of blues and pinks and terribly dull colors like yellow!â She turned a baleful eye on her companion.
âYellow probably is their response to gender neutrality,â Rachel responded calmly. Personally, she agreed with Dani - most of the yellow was too bright and rather dreadful - but she enjoyed seeing Daniâs dramatic side. âAlong with pastels, youâre just going to have to wade through it.â
Dani raised her chin up into the air. âAs the first of your childâs other mothers, I decree that no pastels are going to cross our nurseryâs threshold. Natural colors. Thatâs all thatâs going to touch our baby.â Glancing at Rachel from the corner of her eye, she grinned at the long-suffering look she gave her. âWhat?â
Reaching out to pat Daniâs shoulder, strengthening her grip and sliding her hand down her back, Rachel stifled a laugh, shaking her head. âGet off that cart, hun. We have a lot of shopping to do.â
Grinning, Dani pressed a hard, quick kiss to Rachelâs forehead. âYouâre lucky youâre cute. Alright!â She straightened, waving her hand in front of them, âLead on.â
But Rachel smiled, shaking her head. âYou go ahead. I want to look over my list again.â And, smile only softening as Dani nodded, agreeing, pushing the cart before her as if a shield against the rampant pastels, Rachel looked down, her hand resting on her barely noticeable baby bump. âI promise some yellows,â she whispered conspiratorially, âLike me, I know youâre going to love the color.â
Santana, frazzled and frustrated by one of Guntherâs last minute changes to her schedule, met them in the baby bottle aisle. âWe are not giving our child a Frozen bottle,â she snapped, taking the bottle Rachel had been looking at out of her hand, âDo you want our child to blame trolls for everything?â
âIf youâre referencing internet spawn or fairy tale creatures, either way, I would hope our child will have more sense than that,â Rachel frowned at her, already quite versed in her girlfriendâs Frozen conspiracy theory; making at taking the bottle back, her frown deepened when Santana only moved it further away, putting it back on the shelf. âSantana.â
âNuh-uh.â Santana shook her head, turning to look at the available bottles in front of her. âNo me gusta. Here...â She scanned the shelf, âahah!âing and pulling off one, presenting it to Rachel, âNeutral, solid, and most importantly of all, badass.â
Dani popped up from behind Rachelâs shoulder. âOh, hey, Winnie the Pooh!â
âWinnie the Pooh is badass, now?â Rachel asked archly, unable to stop a smirk from crossing her face, hands planted on her hips. Santana was ridiculous, often in the best ways, but this one, she truly didnât understand.
Santanaâs dimples popped up, and she pivoted, sliding her hands onto Rachelâs and pulling them forward, off her hips, fingers wrapping around hers. âItâs because the mini-Berry, our child,â she grinned, leading Rachel into her arms, squeezing her, âWill obviously make it badass.â

Another? - Grocery shopping, Rachel doesn't know how to flirt with the girl by the fruit (can be whatever girl you want) but she tries her best.
Clutching the two mangoes in her hands, Rachel totters, she feels like, up behind the striking woman restocking the oranges. âHi!â she breathes out, her voice coming out higher than she means it to, âDo you - do you have any insight on how I should pick out which is the better mango?â
Pausing, turning with her hands filled with random citruses, the woman looks at her, tilts her head, and smiles. The oranges fall into the carton in front of her. âMangoes?â she asks, her husky voice flashing through Rachelâs body, so much so that it takes Rachel a while to respond.
"Y-yes! Mangoes." Blinking, Rachel jerks the fruit in her hands up. "These!"
Dark eyes sweeping down, past Rachelâs features to take in what she is holding, the womanâs chin turns up. âHere,â she smiles, cheeks dimpling, offering her hand up, âLet me see.â
Swallowing, Rachel tips the first mango into her hands.
Bringing it to her nose, breathing in first the one end, and then another, the womanâs lips quirk up. âI donât know how to judge mangoes,â she laughs, shaking her head, the fruit falling in her hands to rest on her cart, âYour guess is as good as mine!â
Rachel, who had been watching with bated breath, unable to look away, laughs as well, fake then real. âYou donât?â she asks - more like splutters, âWhat?â
The clerk, her name tag proudly proclaiming Dani, smirks, laughs, and holds out the mango. âI do know, however,â her cheeks dimple again, âHow mangoes should taste, soâŠâ She waits until Rachel reaches out to retake the fruit, holding on long enough to make sure the other girl is still listening, âWhy not ask me over so I canâŠâ Her eyes look up and down Rachelâs body, making her blush and breath catch, her heart flutter in her chest, âHelp you?â

Glass from the doors was strewn about. Two of the glass sculptures had been shattered, with hammers, the police had said. All over the inside of the gallery, on her artwork and the walls, Bible verses had been spray painted on the walls. Dani sat on the stone steps as the police finished up their report. Sheâd feared this, but hadnât really expected it. Not really, deep down. She hadnât believed anyone could be this cruel. Looking down at one of the many magazine articles that had been left, she realized she should have.
Her art gallery had opened last month, and with it, there had been a great article in the New York Times about her and her work. In it, Santana, Rachel, and their son Corbin had been briefly mentioned. When Daniâs parents had seen it, theyâd threatened to cut her off if she didnât break up with Rachel and Santana immediately. Theyâd threatened to do a lot of things. But what theyâd done, was make some money off of being âDisgusted at the path our daughter has chosen!â Since the middle of March, theyâd been on Christian talk shows, giving interviews to magazines, and speaking at churches. All the while, calling Dani to remind her that theyâd forgive her, if she would just repent. They were, arguably, more famous than Dani at this point. And now, this.
âMaâam?â one of them said gently. âWould you like one of us to drive you home?â
Dani shook her head. âI have a ride coming.â She got up from the hard steps and, as the police drove away, began to sweep up the glass.

âSheâs crying.â
âI know.â
Dani moved to get out of bed, but Santana caught her hand.
âShe said she wanted to be alone.â
âAnd do you really think she does? Or is she trying to get used to being alone? Weâve only been together for two weeks, the three of us, and sheâs...sheâs probably thinking sheâll have to do this alone. Or with Finn.â
Santana considered this for a moment before getting out of bed and following Dani into the next room. Rachel didnât even notice them until Santana snuggled in behind her.
âS-san -â
âShhh⊠itâs okay.â
âIf you really want us to leave, we will,â Dani said softly. âBut we donât want to leave. Please let us hold you.â
There was only a moment of hesitation before Rachel nodded, pulling Dani closer and relaxing in Santanaâs arms.
âItâs going to be okay.â
*
âThank you,â Rachel said as Finn handed her a glass of water.
âYouâre welcome. So...how are you doing?â he asked, sitting across from her.
âIâm okay. Itâs a boy.â She passed the sonogram picture to him. Besides circling the important bits, the doctor had written a little XY in the corner.
He beamed at her. âYeah? Oh god, what did Santana and Dani say? Did they go crazy?â
âSantanaâs still arguing with me over how weâre going to decorate the nursery, but we are not doing a Halo-themed baby room, so sheâs going to lose that one. And Daniâs already looking into sports leagues. You know you can start your kid on hockey at the age of three?â
âFootball too,â Finn said, still grinning.
âOh sweet BarbraâŠ.â
He laughed, but sobered after a moment. âUm...we havenât really talked about...you know⊠what Iâm going to be. Do you want me around? Like...you know.â
Rachel melted a little. âOf course I do, Finn. Just...as a co-parent, not as a boyfriend or husband. Iâm happy with Dani and Santana.â
He nodded. âWhat happens when all four of us want the kid to go to do a different college?â
âWe let the kid decide since heâll be an adult by then. But I know what youâre asking. And I promise to not let the other two gang up on you. Theyâve already said theyâll leave the hardcore stuff to us. Weâll just...figure it out as we go. Thatâs what most parents do, right?â
A look of relief passed over Finnâs face. âYeah.â
*
Dani stood back and looked at the finished product. Sheâd finally settled the nursery argument by getting suggestions from the other two, plus Finn, and doing it all herself. Thus, the baby now had the coolest storybook themed nursery ever. The walls were dark green, each with an open book painted on them. Sheâd decided on painting the less traumatizing fairy tales, and gone with Jack and the Beanstalk, Peter and the Wolf, and a cleaned up version of Rumplestiltskin.
Today, sheâd put the finishing touches of furniture in. She hauled the toolbox out of the room and called into the living room.
âOkay, you two! You can come see now.â
Santana came down the hall, carrying Rachel. Santana had taken the âNo Overexertionâ rule to new heights by basically not letting Rachel lift a finger if possible. Another seven months of this would be interesting.
âDani, could you please tell her that this is unnecessary?â Rachel asked, trying to hold back her laughter.
âSantana put her down and go look at my wonderful creation,â Dani said.
âFine. There had better not be any clowns.â
âI promise I omitted clowns.â
Santana and Rachel walked into the room, and Dani knew sheâd scored because both gave identical squeals of happiness.
âTold you to leave it to me,â she said, grinning.

Kurt and Santana were at the apartment while Rachel and Dani were at the doctorâs office. They were just discussing heading out for Frisbee in the park when Kurt got the phone call. He sank to his knees, face white.
âKurt? Kurt, what is it?â Santana asked, rushing over.
He opened his mouth, but no sound came out. And then he started gasping for breath.
âJesus! Kurt, breathe!â Santana said, grabbing the phone. âHello? Burt? Is everything -â
And she listened as Burt explained how Finn had died. How theyâd found him. She listened, but couldnât really take it in. This couldnât be right - Finn was supposed to come back to New York at the end of Spring Break to spend a few days with them. They were going to eat junk food, and go to sports events, and argue about baby names.
âWhat⊠How do I tell Rachel?â she whispered.
âHer dads will be there in an hour - they got a flight out as soon as we told them. Let me talk to Kurt again.â
âSure.â She pulled Kurt back up onto the couch and handed him the phone. She didnât know what Burt said, but as soon as Kurt hung up the phone, he burst into pained sobs. She held him close, not saying anything. Â
When Rachel and Dani returned, they stopped just inside the doorway. Both were incredibly observant people, and both spotted that Kurt and Santana had been crying. Rachel looked anxiously from them, to her fathers.
âCome sit down, Rachel,â Leroy said. âWe...need to tell you both something.â

It had been a month, and Dani was feeling...well, lost. She hadnât known Finn the way the others had, and she didnât know what to do or say most of the time. But she was trying to keep things as normal as possible...or at least keep them moving.
She got home from a particularly hard day at school and work, and found Rachel on the couch looking at her laptop. At first she thought her girlfriend was crying, but when she rushed over, she found that Rachel was actually in tears from laughter.
âUm...hey there gorgeous?â Dani said, confused but pleased. This was the first time Rachel had laughed in the past month.
Rachel made room for her on the couch. âHey,â she said, wiping her face. âI...I opened my email because my doctor sent some dietary stuffâŠ. And I hadnât opened the last email Finn sent to me before...before everything. Oh god, just look.â
Dani snuggled closer to her and tilted the laptop screen so she could see. She smiled. âDrizzle? Isnât thatâŠ?â
âWhat he suggested Quinn name her daughter? Yes. But apparently itâs unisex.â
Dani kissed her cheek. âDoes he have any other suggestions?â
âA few...and none as bad as that.â
âIâm going to put dinner in the oven, and then we can pick which ones will traumatize Santana the most.â
âSounds like a plan,â Rachel said, smiling at her.
Dani smiled back, hoping things would be okay.

Rachel refused to quit NYADA. She had to change major tracks, and she got stares and sniggers as she waddled past nowadays, but she refused to quit. Now, walking toward Carmen Tibideauxâs office, she sort of wished she had. She didnât know what the woman wanted, but she was sure it wasnât good. She would never get over it if she was kicked out at the beginning of sophomore year.
âRachel, have a seat,â the older woman said, smiling. âCan I get you anything to drink?â
âOh, no thank you. I just had a bottle of water.â
Tibideaux leaned back in her chair and said, âI have an opportunity for you.â
Rachel blinked in confusion.
âIâve never been genuinely impressed by a student before. Iâve been proud, Iâve been happy, Iâve been proven right about someoneâs talent many a time. But this is the first time Iâve been impressed.â
âMaâam?â
âThis year has not been easy for you. But you havenât given up. You reassessed and worked that much harder. How are you enjoying the Acting and Song major?â
âItâs different than what I expected, but I like it. I didnât know how much...well, business, went into it. Itâs an interesting perspective.â
âIt is...as I said, I have an opportunity for you. A friend of mine works for Disney. Theyâre doing a new movie next year, and he needs a voice actress for a secondary character. And it will be next summer, so youâll have some time toâŠâ she nodded at Rachelâs stomach, âadjust.â
âThat sounds amazing!â Rachel said, excited. Musical theater was on the back burner for now, but that didnât mean she was going to up and quit. The more she could get her name out there, the better. âWhat movie is it?â
âI believe itâs a steampunk mystery story. Theyâre pulling back from the princess stories for a while.â
âWhat do I need to do?â
âSay yes, and look after yourself and that baby. And keep working like you have been. I have to get to class, and I think thatâs your Santana down there by the doors,â she said, looking out the window. âIâll be in touch with more details for you to do a voice audition.â
âThank you.â
âYouâre welcome. And Rachel?â
âYes?â
âYouâre going to do amazing things. I know it.â

It was rare that the whole group had the same nights off. But theyâd pawned their shifts off to the newbies, and were enjoying a relaxing Halloween night, watching bad 70s horror movies. Rachel had insisted that the others all enjoy themselves in the alcohol-inclusive way, since theyâd all been trying to be responsible adults.
Thus, when Rachelâs water broke (two weeks early), everyone, including Kurt and Elliot, were fast alseep.
âShit.â
She made sure her bag was next to the door, and shook Dani awake.
âWhat flavor, Iâll get it,â Dani said, popping up from the covers disoriented.
âSantana?â Rachel tried, shaking her as well. âMy water broke.â
âThatâs cool babe, Weâll talk about it at breakfast,â Santana muttered. Then she and Dani shot out of bed, when their brains had caught up.
âWhich one of you is the most sober?â Rachel ask as a contraction hit her.
âElliot,â both replied.
Dani rushed off to get him and Kurt, while Santana helped Rachel into clothes.
Twenty minutes later, theyâd all piled into Elliotâs car. Kurt had made an extra large pot of coffee, and was passing thermoses out to Santana and Dani. Dani was texting all parents and Gleeks, and Santana was trying to comfort Rachel and
âWait, where are you going? The hospitalâs that way!â Santana yelped.
âIâm on empty - I need gas!â Elliot said.
âELLIOT!â Rachel yelped. âWhy are you running your tank down to empty?â
âAnd why did you just pass a gas station?â Santana asked.
âThatâs a Shell station! Iâm not putting Shell in my car!â
âI am going to kill you!â
âYou canât - Iâm driving!â
He did, however, stop at the very next station. By the time they got to the hospital, it was a little after midnight.
âWhoâs coming in to the delivery room?â the nurse asked.
âAll of us?â they all said.
âNot a chance.â
âDani, Santana, youâre up,â Kurt said, hugging them. âWeâll wait for the grandparents.â

At 9:30, on November first, Corbin Liam Hudson was born. It was clear within one day that he would be the single most spoiled baby on the planet.
âHow did you pick the name?â Leroy asked.
Rachel smiled over at Carole. âFinn suggested Corbin. We didnât want to name the baby after him, but we wanted to name the baby for him. And Dani suggested Liam, as a mixture of Leroy and Hiram.â
Carole, who had cried as soon as she got there, got a bit misty again. âI love it.â
Rachel nodded, and then yawned.
âWeâll let you rest,â Hiram said.
The parents, plus Kurt and Elliot, left the three girls. Dani, sitting on Santanaâs lap, looked as if she was pondering something.
âWhat is it?â Rachel asked, catching her expression.
âIs that memorial still up at McKinley?â she asked.
âYeah. Beiste got them to move it to outside, by Finnâs tree.â
Dani stood and took Santanaâs phone. âIâm sending a picture to Sam. Iâll tell him to print it out and add it.â
Santana took Corbin as Rachel yawned again. âSleep, love. Weâve got him.â
