What a treat to meet the inspired Palau First Lady Debbie M. Remengesau (with the gold necklace) and her team of motivated women at the D&AD Impact Awards last night in NYC! As a member of the D&AD Impact Council - it was great to help recognize their initiative with a coveted Black Pencil award for their Palau Pledge initiative. (Do look it up - PalauPledge dot com) Palau is the first nation on earth to change its immigration laws in service of environmental protection. Upon entry, visitors need to sign a passport pledge to act in an ecologically responsible way on the island, for the sake of Palau’s children and future generations of Palauans. In addition to the brilliant passport pledge, a suite of airline videos, PR and educational programs have already shown behavioral change for the better. What’s even better? Seeing them express pure unbridled joy on stage when they accepted their award.
