Anytime i tell non-danish people that my littlesister is at boarding school right now, i have to take a moment and think “huh, i wonder what they’re imagining right now”
In Denmark, going to boarding school when you’re around 16 is a very very normal thing to do. I’d almost say it’s TOO normalized. (in that too many people do it just because its what all their friends are doing) (i did. I dropped out and went home after 2 days)
But i think when you say the words boarding school many people think of kids being shipped off by their parents to a school in the middle of nowhere? Idk.
I feel like boarding school isn’t the right word for it either but i have no idea how else to translate it.
“Efterskole” directly translated is “afterschool” But like, it is a school where you live there.
If you’ve seen Young Royals, just imagine that honestly. It’s pretty similar, except YR is high school where you are there for 3 years.
My sister is only there for one year
Although Denmark does also have schools like the one in Young Royals. Our version of Hillerska is probably Herlufsholm. It’s where the royal people went. And there has also been drama similar to what happens in YR (very similar actually. I just did a google search to double check)
