“I’m just saying Spider-Man is a better-written hero than Superman,” Jackie stated, throwing the tennis ball across the large, long table to Chase.
“Superman’s stronger.” Bing countered as Chase threw the ball to him.
“Spider-Man’s smarter,” Chase added.
“School smarts and street smarts.” Jackie tapped his temple before catching the ball from Bing.
“You’re going to set the entire house on fire if you try that,” Marvin said to Phantom.
“I have more control over my magic than you think, cat-boy.” Phantom huffed.
“It’s not magic, it’s basic science. You can’t mix those elements without it literally exploding in your face.” Marvin sighed.
“Mad, would that actually happen?” Phantom turned to Mad.
“Yeah.” Mad shrugged. “It would cause a chain reaction of events that would cause a fire, and then the fire wouldn’t be able to be put out with water, so we’d have to-”
“I get it, I get it.” Phantom waved a hand. “You’re all boring.”
“Not wanting to explode doesn’t make us boring.” Mare chuckled with an eye roll.
Dark listened to those conversations and the several others that were happening at the same time. Some were much less concerning than others. The Ego meeting had ended a while ago, and they were now just sitting and chit-chatting. Dark also noticed that a voice was missing. A voice he knew very well and tended to stick out from the crowd.
Anti was quiet.
He was rarely quiet.
Dark saw him sitting beside him, staring down at his lap and picking at his fingers. Anti was known for having too many things happening at once, always needing something going on, but even he sometimes got overwhelmed. Dark gently took hold of Anti’s hand, leaning over to whisper.
“Let’s go somewhere, just you and me.”
“You never leave first.” Anti squeezed his hand back, showing he did want to leave, but not if Dark didn’t.
“It’s fine. Wilford can have a turn getting everyone out.” Dark softly chuckled. “It’s getting a little too loud for me.” He knew that by making it sound like he needed to get away, Anti would be more willing to leave.
“We should go then.” Anti squeezed Dark’s hand again.
“Wilford, we’re heading off,” Dark said before sending himself and Anti away in a cloud of black smoke. He had them both landing on his bed, Anti on top of him as he wrapped his arms around his body. Anti did make a questioning sound at first, and then it clicked. It was only a few moments after that he was relaxing.
“Thanks, Darky.” Anti purred and nuzzled his face into Dark’s chest.
“We all need a break sometimes.” Dark hummed, having one of his hands rubbing Anti’s back as the two just lay there and breathed peacefully.
