Daina has never held hands with anyone.

Parents were seldomly home. Other kids weren’t sympathetic towards her and didn’t want to hold her palm. When she had to cross a busy street with one of her older siblings when she was younger, she held their elbow or wrist. She has never even considered to grab her lover’s hand in any case, even when they were sauntering or just sitting together and watching TV. Although, situations like this were rare because Aizawa was her first long-term relationship partner. Before he came, there were only one nighters or friends with benefits, people came to her life and then left, as simply as it sounds. Aizawa was different. He accepted her cheekiness, bad habit of smoking and frigid attitude. He reached her heart, tore down all walls she had built around her, but still, they did not hold hands.

Sometimes she wondered how it feels like when fingers of lovers entwined and became one. Skin by skin, so plain albeit intimate moment. Could it carry the sensation of safety and comfort? A quiet statement, a whisper I am here.

She stopped patting on the keyboard and glanced at Aizawa with the corner of eye. He was correcting some of his students’ essays. Daina took a thorough look at his hands. They were warm, callous from the years of constant fight, big and extremely skillful. Long fingers firmly held a red pen, that scampered on paper mercilessly. His left palm was situated next to a coffee cup. He took a sip of the drink or shifted the papers on the table occasionally. His attention was entirely focused on his work, he seemed to have no idea about Daina’s thoughts. She bit her cheek from the inside and came back with her gaze to the file she was supposed to translate. She just couldn’t get herself to focus, picture of Aizawa’s hands disturbed her mind. She kept sliding over keyboard with fingertips as she felt some kind of a peculiar and unfamiliar buzz crawling under her skin and a warm feeling inside stomach, like a herd of butterflies. She glimpsed his hands again, they were insolently tempting her. As she gave up, she let her head fall on the bedhead.

“Did some text defeat you?” Aizawa asked as he didn’t break away gaze from Bakugou’s report. He crossed out something and added a remark beside. “You’ve been sitting like this for five minutes.”

“Mmm” Daina murmured tentatively.

She felt like having a cigarette right now, but she knew she’d have to stand up, go to the kitchen and open a window. Aizawa made her break the habit of smoking anywhere and was really strict in this case. Her thoughts were still wandering not where they should, she mindlessly kept tapping the keys and looking at Latin letters. It was wonderful for her that people were able to create such complex words and metaphors using only a limited number of characters. She enjoyed creating words that formed shapely sentences. Infrequently she was taking some notes manually, so with time she managed to shape her handwriting that affectionately portrayed every letter. “D” and “b” were full and rounded, “g” and “y” - slim and graceful.

Aizawa’s hand on her thigh broke her out of lethargy. She was wearing wide sweatpants that ended at her calves and a shirt that was too big and hanged on her loosely. She looked at it with squinted eyes.

“Daina?”

“Oh, fuck it” she mumbled.

Their palms touched and their fingers fused. Her eyes stopped at them for a while. She tilted her head a bit, a nice feeling of security spread cross her chest, a sensation of being loved was filling every inch of her body. It was a sensation out of this world, like she rediscovered the idea of touching another human being. It used to be thoughtless sleeping, now it was ordinarily holding hands of a man, who saw a person worth loving in her. Aizawa was watching her attentively. He was looking for a hint of what she might be thinking about on her face, but as always, she was nearly impossible to decipher, even for him. An explanation came in a short moment.

“I wasn’t expecting it to be so nice”  she said eventually. “You’ve just made me lose my virginity, Shouta.”

Aizawa’s heart shattered under thought that his lover had to wait for twenty-six years to experience a simple act of kindness and love like that. He knew Daina was practically making first steps in being in normal relationship and was noticing and commenting even the most usual things, like holding hands. He smiled subtly and went back to his student’s reports. The note he was finishing was longer than the paragraph it was about. He gently squeezed Daina’s hand.
