Ragged used to be one of my favorites, and now I want to throw stones at this guy (going after your situationship-esque??? after the lastest event you two had together was sort of an argument????? AFTER YOUR DAUGHTER'S DEATH???), that's just how good it is I love it :3

Okay so I've had a lot of comments of this nature, which I did anticipate because I don't expect people to give Raggedveil the benefit of the doubt because he's been such a frustrating character.

HOWEVER, to clarify what my intent was with this scene:

We don't see everything that happens in the comic. I tried to illustrate with how Sunstar and Raggedveil were interacting in Moon 43, Part Four that Raggedveil is absolutely comforting his family. I've also spent a lot of the comic establishing that Raggedveil's best trait is that he is a good father and absolutely loves his children. He LOVED Owlpaw. He is destroyed by her death.

Raggedveil also misses Cottonwish, but I don't think he misses the weird situationship they had. I think he misses his friend. The Founders have this intense past together that bonded them in a difficult time, and it's an awful feeling for all of them to be on bad terms. Cottonwish is also the Clan healer and DaisyClan doesn't have a mediator. He's the cat that Raggedveil is closest with besides his family members. Raggedveil isn't going to go to his grieving wife and children with his terror of not knowing what to do with himself in the wake of Owlpaw's death. So he went to Cottonwish.

Whether or not you guys think it's fair that he went to Cottonwish is absolutely another question. I don't personally think he was wrong to reach out, but I think he said it in a messy and intense way. He's not in the right headspace to communicate very well. But the scene in Moon 43, Part Five starts in the middle of their interaction. Raggedveil didn't just barge up to Cottonwish and force the feather on him. I think Cottonwish was willing to and on some level really wanted to talk to him, but is also absolutely dreading seeing Raggedveil in this way, because it's terrifying to see somebody you love in such deep grief. Cottonwish ripcords out at the end and refuses the gift because

a) I think the idea of holding onto something of Owlpaw scares him, it's too intense,

b) he doesn't feel like he deserves the gift, and

c) he knows he is risking falling back into their old patterns if he engages with Raggedveil in this way, even if that's not Raggedveil's intent.

For the better and worse of this scene, their old dynamic is truly the last thing on Raggedveil's mind right now. His daughter is dead.

It's half and half!! Or maybe 40/60. It's gratifying to see everyone's distress because I did absolutely want readers to grieve Owlpaw. But, while I was writing the scene/drawing thumbnails, I cried a little, and I rarelyyy cry. In the moons leading up to Moon 43, Part Three, I also sometimes felt genuinely ill thinking about what I was building up to. I was dreading it and excited for it.

First and foremost, her sister is dead

She swapped patrols with her, meaning she's probably thinking about how it could've been her buried alive instead.

She probably thinks it's her fault Owlpaw is dead and wished she could take her place.

One of DaisyClan's current apprentices will prove to be very clumsy and continuously gets injured in a way that is not super serious but enough to put them in the healer's den often.
