Hey crispy! I was just wondering what kind of range do locks have when it comes to expressing emotions? Such as furrowed eye brows, scrunched up face when they snarl, or even wiggling their eye brows. Can they be very expressive with the faces or is it more of a body language kind of thing?
There’s little range. There’s some flexibility in the eye ridges, nose, (upper) lip, and mouth (so they can sneer and snarl and grin), but on the whole they’re not built for physical expression of emotion in the same way we are.Â
Their primary method of communication is intention sending, which is as it sounds - the transmission of information that results in an instant understanding of one’s intent. It can contain images, memories, sounds, emotions, etc. Secondary, but just as important (and somewhat intertwined) is the push/pull of auras. Locks aren’t a part of the material world, their bodies are more or less constructs created by wrapping the fabric of that reality and the matter it contains into a malleable body for interactions with the locals. Think of their forms more like… probes. Their actual, natural state is more or less formless, and they perceive each other as they really are - gigantic rotating strands (bands?) of will strength around formless voids. They receive all sorts of information by observing and interacting with each other’s rotations (or rather, the energy produced from the rotating, ie. the ‘aura’).Â
Most living beings on any singular plane can’t handle their intention sending and can’t perceive the fluctuations in aura, mostly because Locks aren’t local to any particular plane of existence. Although some can pick up on undercurrents of emotion here and there, at most if you spoke with a Lock they’d have to parse things down; you’d get a voice in your head and a sense of something incomprehensibly massive somewhere beyond your senses. It’s a little different for telepaths/empaths, and potentially a lot different for beings who are natural plane jumpers.
As far as physical communication goes, body language is typically paramount, and they have their own rituals and ways of keeping order. When they are interacting with each other on the physical plane in various forms they are reading body language, the fluctuations of the other aura(s), and are usually intention sending all at once. It’s multi-layered. Â
