Coldflash Summer Fun 2018: Day 3: Some Summer Lovin’

At first, Mayor Leonard Snart is proud of his daughter for landing the summer internship at STAR Labs. Only a couple high-school kids are admitted each year, and Laura never asked him to put in a good word (or a few thousand in bribes). 

But when she starts getting home all starry-eyed about some geek creep at work, Len is decidedly unimpressed. He doesn’t want to tell Laura what to do, because being her father’s daughter, she would do the exact opposite... but he quietly grinds his teeth whenever Laura talks about this ‘Barry’ orbiting around her, inviting her to lunch, bringing her cookies or lending her books. 

Because in Len’s experience, only two kinds of older men would prey on a seventeen-year-old Mayor’s daughter - the stupid creeps or the calculating assholes hoping to get ahead in the world by using Laura’s connections. 

So when Laura gets home one day in early August and tells him about Barry’s invitation to come to the beach with some people from the lab, Len doesn’t have to think twice about offering his yacht for the outing. Laura gives him an odd look, knowing full well how much he hates strangers aboard his beloved Rogue, but she agrees to ask the others. 

And that’s how Len ends up watching like a hawk for this creep who is trying to mess with his daughter. He doesn’t expect the guy to be seriously hot, mid-to-late twenties, tall and lean, with a smile to kill for. Len waits for the young man to reveal himself as the asshole he no doubt is, sassing Len or kissing up to him. Instead, ‘Barry’ blushes sweetly when Len smirks at him and shakes his hand, a little too firmly to establish the dominance of a watchful father; Barry, damn him to the deepest level to hell, keeps stealing furtive glances Len’s way, thinking he’s being subtle about checking out Len’s ass. And it becomes painfully obvious, after watching the young man interact with Laura for a few hours, that Len’s poor daughter has definitely mistaken Barry’s sweet nature and perhaps some brotherly protectiveness for something it’s most certainly not, at least not on his part.

When Len brought up Luke’s mother it sparked a flame of curiosity in Barry that he had been suppressing since he had first seen Luke. Who was this women that had Cold’s child. Was she just a passing night or someone special... did she share his occupation, did she hide Luke from him. There was so much he didn’t know and he wanted to. He wanted to know about this women and he hoped knowing would smother that burning flame of jealousy... no curiosity... he was only curious. Barry had never been much of a liar and his lies to himself were even less convincing. If he admitted to his jealousy though he would have to look at the why he was jealous and that was just too hard.

‘Friend’ the man had just offered and here barry was already sullying that with longings for more. He didn’t totally understand these feelings though, so to act on them, to do anything more than examine them would be wrong. Would risk too much. Romance was not an area in Barry’s life where he took risks. Barry’s conflicting thoughts were interrupted by gorgeous blue eyes that glowed eerily in the low lighting. Barry silenced a gasp with his beer as he took in the soft gentle expression on len’s features. He was usually all hard lines and cold arrogance but right now he just looked beautiful and bare.

The moment was just that though a moment and then it was gone, back to smirks and masks. Barry felt a stab of loss but didn’t know how to chase that moment how to bring it back. Then all hope of bringing it back is gone as Len asks about Patty and Barry feels like he is in the midst of doing something wrong. He’s not of course, they don’t even talk all that frequently right now and last time they did she had mentioned about maybe transferring closer to her mother. Barry was too loyal and he did really like her though and all hope isn’t lost and Barry always hung on to things like these for way too long. “Last time we talked she mentioned maybe transferring closer to her mother...”

The fall sun was warm on the back of Len’s shoulders. The dark peacoat warming under the touch of sunrays. Beside him, leaning on the opposite side of the trunk of a brightly colored maple tree, Lisa sips her latte again before retucking her chin into her fashion-trendy scarf. Both of them watch the little boy in the sand box with fond expressions.

“He looks so much like you…Rebecca’s hardly there.”

Len smirks. “Snart genes are strong, sis. Look at us.”

Shifting his weight from one foot to the other, he adjusts his lean and is about to say something else when a roar rips through the calm afternoon. The other parents all go from relaxed to alert and shifty, moving grab up their children. Central City is more than familiar with trouble nearly three years post accelerator explosion. Lisa’s the one who hurries to pick up Luke whose eyes are wide and glued to Len. Len steps forward and plants a quick kiss to the boys soft brown hair, the only diversion from scanning the area.

And then there’s a red clad body tumbling out of the hedge row and Len pushes Lisa and Luke behind the playset while the other parents panic and scatter. The gorilla that follows the Flash through the bushes is a monster, huge and terrifying. It lumbers towards Barry…sure of its victory while the Flash lies helpless and writhing on the ground clutching his head and making the most terrible noise. Len’s hand slips to the cold gun strapped to his side beneath the coat, but Lisa’s hand stays him. He glances over at her but his eyes catch on Luke’s wide-eyed stare.

The boy is looking through the plastic coated grate, mortified. The Flash is his hero…

Len sighs and Lisa does too. Her hand slips away. “Give us a good show, Lenny,” she murmurs and Len gets to his feet, striding forward and pulling on his goggles as he calls out,

“Hey, Magilla! It’s impolite to break other people’s toys. Weren’t you ever taught any manners?”

The massive beast snorts and there is fury in his eyes as he charges. Len’s already pulling the trigger. The creature doesn’t stand a chance and Len comes to a stop, releasing the trigger two feet from the glittering statue of iced-gorilla. “Way of the mammoth…that’s tough luck.”

No, it can’t…and I can see this, Len completely overcompensating for his own childhood..although he’d establish boundaries and things like that…hmm.

Len ends up buying Michael all the merchandise he wants of Barry’s character and even buys doubles for himself sometimes. Lisa ends up getting tickets to a live concert of barry and his co-stars performing the songs and Len just falls even more in love. This kid is freaking hot! 

Turns out the friend Lisa got the tickets from, Cisco. Invited her and her family to some BBQ he was having and Barry would be there. Michael sees barry and just goes on and on about how much he loves his character. Barry thinks Michael is the cutest thing and even sings pats of the songs for him. When Len comes to take Michael off Barry’s hands Michael goes off about hw much Len loves Barry.
