Coldflash Summer Fun 2018: Day 3: Some Summer Lovinâ
At first, Mayor Leonard Snart is proud of his daughter for landing the summer internship at STAR Labs. Only a couple high-school kids are admitted each year, and Laura never asked him to put in a good word (or a few thousand in bribes).Â
But when she starts getting home all starry-eyed about some geek creep at work, Len is decidedly unimpressed. He doesnât want to tell Laura what to do, because being her fatherâs daughter, she would do the exact opposite... but he quietly grinds his teeth whenever Laura talks about this âBarryâ orbiting around her, inviting her to lunch, bringing her cookies or lending her books.Â
Because in Lenâs experience, only two kinds of older men would prey on a seventeen-year-old Mayorâs daughter - the stupid creeps or the calculating assholes hoping to get ahead in the world by using Lauraâs connections.Â
So when Laura gets home one day in early August and tells him about Barryâs invitation to come to the beach with some people from the lab, Len doesnât have to think twice about offering his yacht for the outing. Laura gives him an odd look, knowing full well how much he hates strangers aboard his beloved Rogue, but she agrees to ask the others.Â
And thatâs how Len ends up watching like a hawk for this creep who is trying to mess with his daughter. He doesnât expect the guy to be seriously hot, mid-to-late twenties, tall and lean, with a smile to kill for. Len waits for the young man to reveal himself as the asshole he no doubt is, sassing Len or kissing up to him. Instead, âBarryâ blushes sweetly when Len smirks at him and shakes his hand, a little too firmly to establish the dominance of a watchful father; Barry, damn him to the deepest level to hell, keeps stealing furtive glances Lenâs way, thinking heâs being subtle about checking out Lenâs ass. And it becomes painfully obvious, after watching the young man interact with Laura for a few hours, that Lenâs poor daughter has definitely mistaken Barryâs sweet nature and perhaps some brotherly protectiveness for something itâs most certainly not, at least not on his part.Â
Which only leaves one problem... Barry Allen is a wet dream come true, but Len canât exactly put the moves on someone his daughterâs crushing on, hard. Â

A quick drabble inspired by these two posts from @swingsetindecember about an Earth-2 AU with Mayor!Len and CSI!Barry. The drabble doesnât fit either of these prompts exactly, but I hope itâs close enough to what you had in mind.
I liked writing this, but I donât know if Iâll continue it or not yet. Let me know?
The moment Len lays eyes on him, itâs like the whole world stops for a half-second.
Time passes slower than molasses as Len traces the lines of that tall, trim body clad in a tailored suit. The strangerâs golden-brown hair is artfully messy, practically glowing under the bright lights. A pair of thin glasses frames rests on his face, a far cry from the heavy, clunky, âhipsterâ ones too many people seem to favor these days. Thereâs a flash of red at his neck- the colorâs intriguing and provocative, a deep scarlet. Unusual for a tie. Enough to get Lenâs attention.
âLisa,â Len says quietly, angling his body so that heâs facing away just enough to keep the man in his sight while still looking like theyâre deeply involved in a conversation. âWho is that?â
Lisa doesnât miss a beat, dropping her phone that sheâd been tapping away at back into her purse and scanning the crows behind Len. Central City Museum is packed full of socialites attending the latest fundraiser, but Lisa has always been extraordinarily good at noticing the same things Len does. Itâs part of why they work so well together.
âGolden dress or red?â She asks. Len shakes his head.
âNeither. Heâs wearing a black suit, red tie. Brown hair, about 6 feet,â Len says. Lisa blinks and refocuses, squinting a little as she surveys the crowd again.
âI see him,â she announces. âHeâs standing next to- oh, I know her. Thatâs Iris West. Sheâs a detective for CCPD,â Lisa says.
âI knew that already,â Len says absently. Heâs seen her a few times at the station. The stranger laughs, tilting his head back and exposing the long column of his throat, and halfway across the room Len still tracks the movement with ease. âWhat about him?â He asks, voice rougher than before.
Lisa rolls her eyes at him. âOh, will you chill, Lenny? I was getting to that,â she says. âHe must be Allen. Iris has mentioned him before. He works as a CSI for CCPD.â
Len freezes. âAllen?â He asks, and thereâs no disguising the mixture of surprise and shock in his voice. âBarry Allen?â
âI wouldnât know, Iâve never met him,â Lisa says dismissively. She glances up at Len and her eyes narrow. âBut you have, havenât you.â Itâs not a question.
Len knocks back the last of his glass of champagne rather than answer, feeling the alcohol burn its way down his throat and wishing for something stronger. Possibly better-tasting as well. He glances around and places the glass on the tray of a passing waiter, grabbing a full one. His hands feel shaky and clumsy, and he needs to hold something. He needs to ground himself.
âI think we went to high school together,â he settles on eventually when Lisa wonât stop glaring at him. Her face relaxes, but then she raises one delicate eyebrow and he knows heâs just made it worse.
âYou think, Lenny?â She says, voice as sweet as honey. âI thought that eidetic memory of yours meant you only ever knew. Why the uncertainty?â
Len scowls at her. âLisa,â he says through gritted teeth. âDonât.â
âHm.â Lisa scowls right back, pouting her lips and scrunching up her nose in an adorable mockery of his face. âI think I will.â
Then she steps around him and strides confidently across the room, high heels clicking and gold dress shimmering as she smoothly inserts herself into the conversation between Allen and West.
Len swears low under his breath and turns to follow her, clutching his glass tightly.
By the time he catches up, Lisa has already dragged West into a discussion about the practicality of using heels to stab people. West looks delighted. Allen looks terrified, and is slowly edging his way out of range. Len smirks. Allen was always the smart kid in the class.
âLenny! There you are!â Lisa says when she notices heâs arrived, like she hadnât just manipulated him into coming over. âLet me introduce you to-â she says, turning to face West.
âMiss West,â Len cuts in, reaching out to take her hand in his and brush a soft kiss across her knuckles. âDetective for CCPD, if I recall correctly?â
Iris blushes just a bit, the rosy glow accentuating the beautiful pink dress sheâs wearing. âPlease, call me Iris.â She says. âOh! And this is my friend Barry. We work together, sort of.â
âSort of?â Lisa inquires like she doesnât already know.
âIâm a detective, heâs a CSI,â Iris explains, and reaches out a hand, looping it around Allenâs arm and dragging him closer. âBear! Say hello to my new best friend.â She grins at Lisa. Lisa smiles back, genuine delight sparkling in her eyes.
Allen glances at Iris before he swallows and speaks to Lisa as well. âUh, Iâm Barry. Barry Allen,â he introduces himself, holding his hand out hesitatingly.
Lisa swoops in and shakes it firmly, shooting him a dazzling smile as she steps on Lenâs foot. He winces a little at the pain but decides to take her cue. As soon as Lisa drops Allenâs hand Lenâs reaching forward, grasping it in his own. Then he brings it up to his lips and kisses the back of Allenâs hand as gently as he had Westâs.
âPleasure,â Len says with all the charm he can muster, as he gazes into the eyes of the first man he ever fell in love with.
