The government of United States of America 🇺🇸 and I are on the same page today. The picture you are looking at is the top of page 2 of the application for a U.S. Passport Book and Card. (You can use the card to travel the Americas and Canada, that includes Mexico, but you need the book to travel internationally.) Notice they ask you for the name of your parents at the time of your parents birth. It’s an important caveat. So my game plan, as it relates to my name, is not that complicated. Three years ago I met a man who as of November 1, 2017 is my best friend in the Pacific Northwest. Over the summer I almost lost him because I really could not grasp the strength and beauty that can come from a platonic relationship between two Black Men. I haven’t really had that since childhood. Only three men have really fallen into that category: my father, Leamon, my baby brother, Murray, and my cousin, Damon. Without exaggeration, I draw energy and strength from him. And that energy not only sharpens my thinking, my approach to every situation, it also leaves me at extreme peace. I lead a very blessed life. I’m grateful. And humbled. And I’m still broke. And as crazy as it sounds that’s the part I love the most.
