22-23 May 2021
I completed my self-isolation at home following Rome, and celebrated by spending the weekend socialising! Josh came down on Saturday, and as per usual we had a top time; we went to the park and lobbed my American footbawl around for a while, where - with some rudimentary measurements - we reckoned our throws were approaching 30 yards, despite a severely-under-inflated ball and unimpressive techniques!
We wandered back to mine and whiled away the hours with some F1 and Snooker ‘19 which I’d flippantly offered up, but provided us with some worthy entertainment; our best-of-3 match took on a Selby-esque hue in the deciding frame, with both of us tip-tapping around the pack of reds and refusing to surrender an advantage! I even felt like cooking and had asked Josh a few days earlier what he fancied. The immediate response was chicken pot pie, so C.P.P. is what he got.
On Sunday, I drove to Hannah’s (via Heathrow for my last COVID test) in time for lunch, but not before receiving my first legal hug in...ages! We went to a small burger place called 7Bone, which was superb. I think it’s a good sign when reading the menu feels like exquisite torture, and I had a really tough time choosing. The PR department clearly had fun naming the dishes, with ‘Prince Charles is overrated’ being our favourite; the name of my burger nearly put me off it - ‘Donnie J Trump’ - but it was delicious. The topping of Wotsits dust was an amusing touch.
We walked out with a banoffee shake each and went back to Hannah’s where we watched Mean Girls. I remembered a great deal of it, but it was a lot more brutal than I recalled! We also did some quizzing which included Hannah speed-learning the 32 NFL teams from their logos; she did pretty well, though she had a bit of a brain fart on Jacksonville - after confirming the logo was neither a cheetah nor a leopard, she spent waaaay too long trying to remember what the other big spotted cat was called!
