the fact that David always says he hates his father and doesn't care about it or his family name but then always having his father's weapon, likely the same shellilagh he used, really kinda shows his true feelings deep down.
he wants to be different, he wants to be his own man, but he'll always have a piece of him that just wants to make him proud.
thinking about this newfin pic.
the way that he looks so calm at such an overt threat. the bravado of a kid, the same as he was, versus the strength and stillness of the veteran. he's been through all of this, he's used to whatever Callum tries to do. he knows Callum just as well as he does, if not better. he's seen how the tides ebb and flow in their world, and knows how every story ends.
his whole life, his whole family, is this world. frankly he doesn't know anything else but this world. and he's watching another kid get sucked into this nebula. it's a wonder, what life could have been like without wrestling. but he and his family, his brother, they'll never know.
and now Callum is falling head first into the same home, the all consuming void, and he's making a statement against Finlay.
it's almost poetic, the way that consumption never stops.
there's something so beautiful in the metaphor of blades in wrestling.
overuse? it gets blunted. leaving it sheathed? it gets rusty. keep sparring with training dolls and low stakes enemies? it won't have practice when the heat is turned up.
Callum got blunted with his shoulder, moving to a ground assault. Jay was gone for a bloody long time. But David? he's been consistent, sharpening against the grindstone. constantly working and fighting, and everyone's been overlooking his reps.
I've been thinking about the impending finjay feud, and while I know jay's the smarter one, the sharper one-
I think there would be something interesting about Finlay being the one to have the upper hand, the advantage and maybe even the win in this whole feud. Jay's been in America for a while now, he's been injured, he and the bbgee have been having fun, joking around. while Fin's been in Japan, always working and scheming, fighting different factions and going through hell.
think about it this way— jay's had 72 matches from 2023 to now, meanwhile fin's had 252. yeah a lot of that is injury time, but David's sharper than Jay remembers. they last fought in 2022 and since then David's changed so much... he's colder, sharper, more cut-throat. he took what he learned from jay, the heartbreak and the pain, what he learned from all those feuds, the duplicity... it's changed him so fundamentally he's not the same man anymore.
and with that dog shelter promo? David knows he's not taking him seriously, he knows he's weak for the next strike.

the enemy of my enemy | newfin
had plenty of thoughts about newfin meeting while cal was in chicago for the gee-one.
I feel like jay is methodical in his violence and pain, he knows exactly where to strike to do the most damage. but David is brutal and relentless, he doesn't give jay a second to talk and try to manipulate him, he's all fire and rage and malice.
he finally gets an advantage over the other when in a particularly messy fight David broke Jays jaw, and the whole thing had to be wired shut as it healed.
Jays weapon is his tongue, his words, but he's left at David mercy without them.
saw a pic of Callum in a suit-
David grabbing him by the tie, pulling it tighter until Callum's face goes purple, walking him on his hands and knees with the tie as a leash, kicking him in the ribs until his crisp white shirt is stained with spit and blood.
I mean- he looks really handsome :3
