I swear this has been the break of "drawing characters with their arms crossed" like 50% of the time.
may I ask about the necromancer landlord because I love DnD stories and that sounds like a good one
OK. Fair warning this is a little background-story heavy because I gotta give some context to explain why the necromancer landlord is a thing at all.Â
Edit: In fact, it got so out of hand I gotta put it under a cut.
Another practice Sam, still D&D-flavored!

DnD Sam is only 17? Sorry this is cool and that's real young for DnD right?
D&D!Sam is 18 in the campaign currently, though he should be passing the 19 mark fairly soon if my math is right. (If he hasn’t already and just been too distracted to notice the date, that is!)Â
It does seem young, especially compared to Funnel (who’s in his 180′s), but it makes a lot of sense when you look at his origins:Â
A lot of Sam’s life was fast-tracked due to his admission to the college/Combine at such a young age - When you find one lucky enough to be born blessed with the truly random magic of the Wild itself in a world of growing technology, you claim it and you don’t let it go. He’s been boarding at the college since he was about three or four, living a life completely dedicated to academic pursuits.Â
Not as glamorous as it might seem, when you consider that also means his permanent relocation was “arranged” with his family at such a young age in return for care and financial compensation. He still sees his mom a couple times a year though, and cares for her very deeply. She did what she thought would be best for him, considering they do not come from money, and he understands that.Â
Honestly I blame a lot of Sam’s convenient progress in life on his inherent influence over the forces of luck and chance. It seems like a bit of a cop-out at times, but with how often Sam uses Bend Luck - often without even realizing he’s doing it - I feel it’s justified. :p
That and it’s balanced out by his own fair share of unfortunate circumstance.
There are a lot of similarities between canon!C&C and D&D!C&C but I have this image in my head and--Â s o f t ?Â
He may not say it outright, but Funnel is pretty self-conscious of his appearance following his mutations. The dejected and paranoid elf-turned-Simic hybrid sitting while his charge oh-so-carefully takes a straight razor to his hair in the absence of proper scissors. Enveloped by the smell of damp stone and the barest whiff of sulphur from the lab equipment bubbling away in the next room. Not a sound between them, just the quiet crackle of the extra candles Sam’s set up for enough light to properly work by.Â
A razor mere inches from his throat, but Funnel unconcerned. Bored, even.Â
Neither of them acknowledging the level of pure, unadulterated trust present in that moment.Â
(I guess what I'm saying is: Don't be afraid of alignment shifts.)
