The first two miscarriages Deanna had were both boys. The last one was actually born stillborn at seven months and Deanna was heartbroken and didn't want to try again. Her doctor told her she probably couldn't have any children and she fell into a depression for several months. Mary was a complete surprise and her entire pregnancy was filled with anxiety and fear and then relief when the little girl came safely. After Mary, she had two more miscarriages. There must be something special about that Mary....

Deanna's childhood nickname was Tommy Dean. A clever play on Tomboy Deanna. Deanna was always rough and rowdy and many of her classmates teased her and said she should have been a boy. To this day, she'll answer if you call her Tommy. Everyone in her house calls her that except for her mother who scowls when she hears it. 

Deanna and Samuel are turning out to be really cute. Ow. My heart can't take this. They're so awkward and adorable.
