“How do we always end up here?”
Seeing a few blogs I follow do this. I wanted to give it a try too. So It’ll be my first time joining @challengingwords
“How do we always end up here, Jade?”
The petite woman standing in front of him was indifferent. Since grade school to middle, high school to college. And now even work. They were always the top two fighting for the first place. But they both knew Jade was always a little smarter than Changkyun. Jade always made it to first place. It angered Changkyun and now to get that promotion, he wasn’t going to let it slip out of his hands again.
“Let’s make a deal.” Changkyun offered, “You let me have the position, I’ll do your job for a month.”
Jade finally raised her gaze to look him in the face, surprised he would throw away his dignity. Yet it was so like him. Seeing how serious she looked, he scooted closer.
“A year.” Changkyun tried to sweeten the deal.
She smirked, seeing her advantage. He was so desperate.
“Do you think I’m stupid?” Jade questioned.
Her confidence caught him off guard. Normally she was so quiet around him. She never talked back. Seeing the confusion in his eyes, Jade giggled. Another blow at Changkyun. He’d never seen or heard her laugh before. It was beautiful.
“You’re so naive, Changkyun.” Jade pressed her palm to his chest, sliding lower.
She turned and walked away just as her fingers gently brushed against his thigh a little too close. Changkyun only knew he held his breath when he let out a frustrated groan when she disappeared around the corner.
“Wow, all these years, she was this kind of girl?” Changkyun mumbled.
Jade hurried back to the table, blushing. She had no idea what took over her. Made her so bold. Was it because she was tired of being looked down upon? Was it the alcohol she drank? Shaking her head, Jade put on a poker face when Changkyun joined them again. His eyes on her the entire time.
When the party ended, Jade was completely drunk. But she was good at hiding it. Everyone left. Knowing Jade was a terrible drinker, Changkyun took her home. They’re neighbors.
“Why’d you drink so much, you know you’re terrible.” Changkyun complained.
Facing him, Jade pushed him against the wall.
“You know you’re handsome Changkyun, always using it for your gain.” Jade frowned, “I hate you.”
“You always made fun of me even though I like you so much.” Jade chuckled, resting her forehead on his shoulder.
Changkyun froze at the sudden confession.
“Yes, I like you.” Jade raised her face to his, holding his shoulders, “So I decided that if I can’t have you, I’ll beat you instead, enemies for life, Cheers!”
His heart beat faster the more he found out. When she cupped his face in her hands kissing him, his heart was going to burst.
“I’m number one in the world, but you’re always number one in my heart.” She pulled away
Overwhelmed, Changkyun threw her over his shoulder, taking her home. This conversation will have to continue after she sobered up.
