The USS Nimitz made a historic homecoming after 270 days at sea and the aircraft carrier’s final deployment before decommissioning.
My FIL was on the USS Nimitz on 26 May 1981 when the crash and fire happened. He talked to me about it just once, with tears in his eyes. 14 Sailors were killed another 39 wounded that day.
