Is there an artwork in your collection that needs reframing? We often have clients come to us to reframe art -- in some cases, the artwork has been damaged because of the non-archival framing methods used in past framing. Recently, we de-framed a drypoint artwork to prepare reframing it for a client. In addition to allowing for excessive mat burn, the original framing job (done in the 1940s) had left part of the paper torn because of adhesive on the top window mat. Bark hinger Sara Parkel delicately repaired the small tear using tengujo, a Japanese mending tissue. She also built a support under the torn area using archival mat board, to prevent further movement.
