Think you know everything there is to know about Instagram, think again! Here are eight stats that every marketer should know about the world’s fastest growing social network.
It has 800 million users, primarily female (38% of online women vs. 26% of online men), of which 90% are under 35 years old. 80% reside outside of the USA and 53% follow at least one business account.
As of March 2017 the number of Instagram advertisers totalled 1M, up from 200,000 the year before. This steep growth in advertisers means the platform will smash its revenue projections ($3B) and rake in a phenomenal $4B in ad revenue by the end of 2017.
Instagram Stories now has over 250M active daily users, overtaking Snapchat’s active daily users for the first time. This represents yet another incredible Instagram stat, as the Stories feature is only about a year old.
Among social networks, Instagram boasts the highest engagement rates. However, Instagram also deals with content overload and saturation. Over 95 million photos are shared on Instagram daily, which means up to 70% of posts are never seen.
Instagram video consumption has increased 40%, but photos continue to generate 36% more likes than videos. This could be due to any number of reasons. For instance, users could just watch your video then keep scrolling. Or in some cases, your videos might not drive people to take action.
Posts with faces receive 38% more likes than those without. Adding faces to your photos doesn’t always have to mean taking portraits or selfies, a creative approach should be taken.
User-generated assets receive up to 9.6% higher engagement than branded content. GoPro exemplify the power of of UGC, almost their entire page consists of photos shared by customers.
