Sheâd meant to sneak out earlier, as it so often happened. But the exhaustion of the day had kept Zoya under longer than anticipated. When she awoke, she was not greeted with the quiet sounds of the night or Cullenâs sleeping face beside her   instead, she was pulled abruptly from her slumber, with ragged breaths ringing in her ears and shuddering arms wrapped tightly around her.
Any sign of drowsiness was gone in an instant, with Zoya already going on high alert. âCullen.â His room was the only place sheâd save his name for, usually favoring his title as a general rule. But the circumstances differed greatly now, with Zoyaâs tone worried rather than lustful.
For once, she wasnât sure what to do. The Squaller had had plenty of night terrors over the years, but she did not know how to help someone else through them. Tentatively, she put her arms around him and pulled him closer. âIt was just a dream.â Or perhaps memories, visions of a past he wished to forget; she knew about those well, too. âYouâre safe, Cullen    breathe.â
