Encounters 2014 Countdown: 6 days to go - Karen Campbell
With 6 days to go until Encounters 2014 starts, we are announcing the visit of Karen Campbell to Cumbernauld Library.
Karen Campbell is a graduate of Glasgow University’s Creative Writing Masters course. Before turning to writing, she was a police offi cer with Strathclyde Police, and her first four novels focus on the people behind the uniform. Her first novel, ‘Twilight Time’ was published to great critical excitement with ‘The Daily Record’ proclaiming ‘...bang those drums and get the word out - there’s a new writer on the Scottish crime scene and if this debut is a
true reflection of her talent then she’s going to be huge.’ Her latest book, ‘This is Where I Am’, which was a BBC Book at Bedtime, moves away from the world of the police to tell the story of Abdi, a Somali refugee living in Glasgow, and his mentor Deborah. They must spend a year together, meeting once a month in a different part of the city. As Deborah opens Abdi’s eyes to her beloved Glasgow, he teaches her about the importance of family and of laying your ghosts to rest. Come along and hear this rising star that ‘The Times’ has dubbed a ‘Scottish writer of excellence’.
