If the Saiyans liked to fight and get more power, they should have something to entertain other Saiyans, like a gladiator arena. And in the headcanon, Cumber wasn’t just an ancient evil Saiyan; he was a gladiator fighting with wild, dangerous creatures and other Saiyans to entertain everyone. He loved to attract attention, and as a gladiator, the stronger the fighter, the more powerful he became. So it wasn’t surprising that the previous king found Cumber and hired him as a soldier to conquer other planets with comrades. Later (like in super TV shows, movies, and manga), he fought with Yamoshi as a Super Saiyan God, but Cumber didn’t die, instead being imprisoned on the prison planet, but he survived and was covered by the ice for a thousand years.
