Cuckoos Three by Mosskat with Cassandra Jean
I read Cuckoos Three by Mosskat, art by Cassandra Jean. It is so wild to pick up a book in a bookstore and look at the cover and see the name of someone you once followed on tumblr. I experienced some cognitive dissonance and then added it to my pile, haha.
This was an excellent book! I think it is also available on Webtoon, but the book has more than what's available there.
The book follows Murry, a sweet golden retriever of a boy who lives on a farm in a rural town and plays on the high school football team. The story starts when a new family moves into the house next to his, a family with a son his age who nonetheless couldn't be more different than him. Jacob is smaller than him, but covered in piercings, jewelry, and he's homeschooled. Murry is immediately interested in Jacob and puts himself to the task of becoming friends with Jacob.
But, there's something that Jacob's holding back that makes him act strangely from time to time. Jacob's parents are worried about him, and Murry's parents don't trust him. Will they manage to overcome those obstacles to find love?
You can probably guess the answer to that question, ha.
For real though, this book was so sweet. It definitely has conflict and tense moments, but at its heart it's a heartwarming love story about two good people who are just good to each other. It also has one of the most thoughtful and grounded depiction of D.I.D that I've ever seen in any media. For that alone, I feel like I should shout about this book from the rooftops.
If you like sweet fluffy gay romance stories, I think this book is definitely for you!
