CTYI culture is saying "don't worry guys ill come back as an RA!" (you know there's like no way they'll accept you back for like a couple of years because they wouldn't want you to show favouritism to your friends)
ctyi culture is...
Uhhhhh I'm doing cat sesh 1 this summer and I'm really excited!! I've done the ctyi primary programs before and they're like the funnest thinks ever, so I'm really excited for the residential! I just had 3 questions (a lot ik lol)
What are the rooms like? Do they lock? I'm fine if they don't ( I go to boarding school lol ) but I was just wondering
what after class activities do you recommend? Debate sounds really fun but I thought you might know if there where any hidden gems
what percentage of the students are queer/ how are the people who work there with queer/ trans ppl? Like I'm enby do you think they'd use my pronouns and not tell my parents? Just wondering lol. Ik that's two questions but oh well
sorry for the whole ass essay lol. Thanks!!
hii!! omg that's so great, welcome to gay nerd camp!!!! :DDDD (I'm also doing session 1 this year, it's the better session trust)
1: I never did residential so I'm not really sure what the rooms are like, sorry. The only thing I really remember from res students talking about it is that the walls are apparently very thin XD if anyone else here did res and can describe the rooms that'd be great!!
2: There's a lot of variety between after class activites, and sometimes the same one can be very different depending on who is running it (for example, one year D&D appreciation was dividing into groups and playing it, and a different year it was just talking about the game)
I did debate once and it was quite fun!! it's one of those things that you'll probably enjoy more if you're comfortable talking to random people, yk (but everyone at ctyi is always really nice and welcoming so socialising doesn't tend to be a problem!)
activities i really recommend are:
werewolf - it's similar to among us or mafia, where you have to find out who the murderous werewolf in the group is. It's always really fun with silly roleplay and accusations thrown right left and centre, and it's probably the most important game in ctyi culture!
model UN - you get into groups and basically roleplay as countries. While TECHNICALLY it's supposed to teach you co operation, it always ends up being goofy antics (and very often countries nuking each other, one time I played everyone just collectively nuked the UK XD)
speed friending - it's good if you're new at ctyi and looking to get to know more people around you, you usually get like two minutes to talk to a person and then you move on to someone else. Tends to be good craic!
activities like cloud gazing are also great if you want to relax after having a busy day!! :3
oh also ultimate frisbee is quite popular, I don't think I ever did it myself but it's just playing frisbee with a bunch of other nerds
in terms of activities that are ____ appreciation, most of the time it's discussing whatever topic, but if it's a movie/show then it can be just watching whatever it is!
3: we call this place gay nerd camp for a reason. I can count the number of ctyizens that i know to be allocishet on my fingers XD I have not met a single queerphobic person there, it's traditional to wear rainbow clothes on tuesdays, and the whole student base is just super queer. All the students I know would definitely be chill with using your pronouns, and in terms of telling your parents the staff tend to be very chill too!!
i have seen students ask instructors to use a different name for them, some instructors ask for pronouns as part of introductions, and on the one occasion that the instructors would usually talk to your parents (the optional meeting at the end of the course), you should be able to ask them to use a different name / pronouns than the ones you use in class. I have had some tell the students directly that that's an option, but even if they don't there's no reason that they wouldn't do that for you
the RAs (residential assistants) are usually past ctyizens themselves, and so tend to be great with that type of stuff too!! CTYI in general is aware and supportive of its large trans population XD
i wrote a LOT sorry, but yeah feel free to ask about anything else / ask me to elaborate!! and if you haven't already, reading through the wiki is a great thing to do
