ベース改造、一旦完了。 ポットのシャフトを通す穴が狭いので10mmのドリルを買って拡張。シャフトが通るようになったので頑張って配線するも、やはりシャフトが長過ぎてボディから滅茶苦茶飛び出してしまうので一旦作業打ち切り。 ナットを咬まして高さを稼ぐことにしたのだが、楽器屋でパーツを買うと高いのでホームセンターに行ったところ、インチサイズのナットは取り扱い無し。 ネットで探してみたものの、CTSのポットやジャックに採用されている規格は3/8インチで32山という極めて特殊なサイズであることが判明。 ナットは諦め、内径10mmのワッシャーで代用することに。 まるで銭形平次のごとくジャラジャラとワッシャーを5枚も重ねてなんとか調整完了。 組み込みを終えていざ音を出してみたら、トーンを絞ると何故か音量も下がる。 おかしいと思ったら、向かい合わせに配線したポット同士が接触していた。 プレベで慣れていたし、オリジナルの配線も向かい合わせだったので何も考えずにやってしまったが、ポットの大きさが違い過ぎた。 アースを配線し直すだけで横並びの配置に変更できたのは不幸中の幸い。 なんとか配線を完了し、ブラス製のノブを取り付けて出来上がり！ で、出音はというと、どうやら殆ど変わらない模様…。 なんせギター用のミニアンプなんでなんとも言えないが、でかいベーアンで音出ししても多分変わらないと思う。 ローエンドのショボさは楽器の構造由来と思われるのでこれ以上の改善は難しい気がする。 また、今回載せたピックアップが同じフェルナンデス製というのも引っ掛かる。 これ、見た目は違うけど、中身はオリジナルのピックアップと同じなんじゃね？ なんでも2000年代に販売されていたバイオリンシェイプのベースに載っていたピックアップらしいけど、トマホークと同時期に売られていたエクスプローラー型のベースにもそっくりなピックアップが載ってたんだよね。 ギターハムサイズのベース用パッシブPUなんて、いちいち開発しないで設計を使い回す方が自然だよなあ…。 という訳で、実戦への再投入は中々厳しい状況になってきましたな。 あと出来そうなことは ①弦高を上げる ②ゲージを太くする ③PUを換える くらいか。 ③については、リオ・グランデというメーカーが唯一、ギターハムサイズのベース用PUを販売しているようなので、これに賭けてみるしかなさそう。 しかし果たして、そこまで金を掛ける価値があるのだろうか…。 むむむ。 #fernandesbass #fernandestomahawkbass #bass #basspickups #ctspots
