Taking a handful of rosemary and sea salt from her small bag, Lita smiled on the children and retrieved her hand to open it in showing only a small orb, black and fragrant. The kids, in awe, tried to poke the little sphere, but it bent inwards like rubber before they could even touch it. -Now now, -Lita said as boasting- this egg is not like the chicken's. This one is very alive and afraid of lil' pokers. -But you said you eat it.-one of her tiny audience members cried -Of course I do! All mages do. We swallow it whole, in fact. How else you thought we get our powers? A chuckle from behind -Oh! Hello Minstrel. -Lady, I've told you many time to call me by my name. -And I've told the Minstrel many times I don't like being called a lady. -said Lita in an amused tone -Eye for an eye -the old man chuckled- you're quite a handful. Will you show the kids and eat that? -No no, -she retorted quickly- I had my filling this morning.
The kids, used by now to the old manās interruption, looked eagerly at their older counterpart, expecting to see the incredible show. Lita had planned to tease the kids and laugh when one tasted the salt, but now the old man had turned the tables on her. -Come on, show them, one can never have too many... -Yes, yes! -some kids anxiously hurried her -Well, you're -the black egg wobbled and suddenly went flat while she was midsentence, which prompted her to a convincingly concerned voice- Ā darn, it spoiled. I knew it shouldn't have been so much time out in the sun...
The faces of disappointment were long and many, and she could even hear a whispered curse somewhere. She had saved herself from her joke, but just by an inch
Crysaria Letters - 3. Woes of the road
29th day of Thrul, year 14 Ianus
Iām not in the mood of writing right now. Itās been three weeks of having to cope with idiot after idiot. I know the gaeriti main attractive aināt their hospitality, but in the first week of travel alone I had already been fed up with the unwelcomeness to strangers. One herder spit on me before I even said hello! I still doubt if I shouldnāt have sterilized his stupid cows for that, even if they werenāt the ones at fault. But no, Ria must be a good girl, bleh.
I need to find some good tea. In 300 miles of trip I had to rely on my supply. Ok, some bit less of 300 miles, but still. I canāt believe that even in small towns they didnāt even had some local herb to drink! I can understand that they make it roughly, just boiling a leaf; but nothing to make tea of? The things one must see just because they need proof of being right...
And of course, thereās that. I have only 3 days ago been able to find somewhere to do something at all. Which aināt much, since all I got was helping a bitter widow to make a shed for her chickens. Yeah, not much to learn from that, I know. Soon Iāll depart to a larger town called āSwantleā or something like that, not too of southwest of here. Iāll try to get some odd job there, maybe helping building houses or something. Maybe making walls or furniture could enlighten me on the mysteries of treating with dead bodies or tombs?
Now that I think about it, it may be too hard. I mean, how many builders would take a pretty woman as an apprentice? Not even talk about blacksmiths letting me near their forges... Iām starting to think this would have been a lot easier if it were someone like you to test it. Well, I donāt mean you, it would still be needed that the person could establish a normal conversation for him to get some job or even INSIGHT. But you know what I mean, anyway.
Bleh, I better cut the ranting and get some rest, tomorrow Iāll go find something else to do and set up to go as soon as possible. As old teach used to say, getting things done is better than getting done with things. Then again, he also said āRiandra, get your butt off my desk and study properlyā a lot, so I dunno how much should I quote him. And the desk WAS comfier than his chairs, so anyway...
Iāll write you again some time soon

Crysaria letters - 2. The journey starts
5th day of Thrul, year 14 Ianus
I realized when sitting down to write this that I wrote that other letter two weeks ago without a date; and who knows when that guys of the Postal House would get this things to you. Anyway, thatās solved now.
Since I wrote you the letter, I have been around trying to see what can I put my hands on to try my theory. However, I have been hitting some really hard walls in my way, since when I ask if I can help everyone here looks at me with shifty and untrusty eyes. Yes, more than usual. Har har. Moving on...
Seems everyone thinks that once you become a sorceress BOOM! You are ONLY a sorceress! It's like it's weird even that I actually walk and talk instead of floating around and putting my thoughts in their brains or something. No one in 3 days of travel all around here lets me see or do ANYTHING. Of course that the only one they know to compare me with is that robed stuck-up of Erradi, who I wouldn't give chance to say three words about what I'm doing even if he came to ask. He would surely be worst than the other folks, telling me that I'm a necromancer and wouldn't even understand a thing about anything even if it were also sorcery. Sometimes I wonder what kind of guy taught HIM anything. Or if he can actually perform, for the matter...
So this last 3 days I've been wondering about what to do. Better said, where to. I'm gonna make a trip, try other places far from here. Don't make that face. Yes, THAT one I know you are doing right now. I spent years hating that "Ria is saying bollocks again" you make when I say this kind of stuff, and I just KNOW you keep doing it when reading my letters. Ugh, again you make me digress. Gee.
So, what I think is, once I'm away of the neighbourhood people won't know me, so it would be easier to get my hands on something to try on my theory. Last night I finished having some meals with the couriers, from what they told me, I think I'm gonna take a trip south first for a month or two. Then see where to go next.
I'm packing everything now; a couple of couriers said they were going with a caravan that way in two days and are letting me to tag along. Who knows where I'll be next time I write; but just send the letters here, I instructed the postman to toss them in my house if I don't tell him by express courier where to send them each week.
Hoping you are taking care of Clipse not eating funny things,
Riandra
Crysaria letters - 1. Riandra's idea
I've never understood that which people call 'waking revelations'. Maybe because they never happened to me, and you know well I've had all kinds of epiphanies. Most of them over a table; even with that thing you dare call a tea going down my throat. Well, that one was actually never drink his tea again, and though it's pretty obvious to realize once you taste one, it does quite reveal itself when the mug reaches your mouth.
I digress. I blame your tea for that. The point is, I was having some mirrian red tea in a small town half day west of my home when one of this ideas hit me. How much of our studies and abilities are related or unrelated? If you boil it down to the basics, anything besides pure nature is, almost by definition, made. We build houses and make clothes, so we can really say a shirt and a door are unrelated?
Let's boil it a bit less, so you can't just tell me "you're are trying to grasp too much" and I don't have to squeeze something of you to prove I'm still gripping firm. A river and the sea. Different things, one is deep as the sky is high, sour and also wider than we can walk on a day; while the other is thin and sweet and never deeper than a house can be as tall.
Yet, you can't deny, they are both water. And have fish, even when they ain't the same kind they ARE both fishes. Boats sail both, they also move. Anything that floats float in a sea, a river a pond or a barrel; so why to treat a barrel different of them?
My idea is simple: I'll use all my knowledge and resources to work in the other fields of our job; the further from mine, the better. It's time to see if there's something useful in being someone who actually DOES something with our abilities, instead of reading books and writing others that say exactly same.
You'll hear from me soon (If a mob doesn't lynch me soon)
