things i did as a ten year-old: tell stories into a tape recorder in which i had a self insert that was the tape recorder itself (but pedantic) climb this one really big tree and look at people with binoculars bring an umbrella outside when it was sunny, fill a clear water bottle with cranberry juice, wear all black and pretend i was a vampire collect animal bones, arrange them in a circle and lie motionless in the center. for fun wear my grandmother's hand-me-down old dress and go sit in the ruins of the abandoned mill seeing how long i could stare at passerby without blinking pretend to drown my dolls in puddles
