don’t tell a soul (with @crxdevin)
“i’ll see you later okay!” avis called over her shoulder, still laughing at a joke the older boy had told her as she slipped out of the gryffindor common room and into the hallway. she flipped her hair over her shoulder and considered him as she walked. he’s beautiful, she thought to herself. however, flirting with him probably had been rude of her, he was a very nice guy but she didn’t like him that much. she decided immediately (again) to stop. she’d have to apologize excessively (again) if he fell in love with her. she continued walking, jogging up staircases. she needed to visit the owlery. she had a letter to send and she was missing her little friend libra dearly. as she climbed higher into the castle her thoughts kept drifting back down to the common room. more specifically the boy, well - the boys - that she always found herself among. other than her friends, of course. the other ones. the ones she almost hated herself for keeping around. the fun ones, the smart ones, the intriguing ones, the pretty ones. a lump started to form in her throat as she reached the owlery door and ducked inside. not even the sight of libra, dozing on a perch, truly raised her spirits. avis attempted to swallow the lump down without success. she felt tears pricking the backs of her eyes and she gave up. she rushed over to libra and began to cry. the little bird flew to rest on her shoulder as she sunk down onto the dirty floor, letter forgotten as despair washed through her. avis was empathic to the point where she’d always wondered if it could somehow be magical. she hurt people. real, nice, genuine people. because of her own selfish and horrid commitment issues. and she could feel it.
