picky sylus vs. "i'll try anything once" xavier. made on a whim cus im so busy that other stuff will be a bit 🙇
With a protective hand underneath the hefty forkful, Xavier nudges it towards Sylus. Again.
"You should try a bite," he says. The softness in his eyes doesn't relent, even under the minute scowl tugging at Sylus's lips.
You take another prolonged sip of your drink, peeking at the pair over the rim. You opt not to interfere, amused.
Sylus has the nerve to scoff at him. With a light shake of his head, he folds his arms against the peak of his chest.
"That looks horrific," he says flatly. It really says something when he doesn't even try to dress up his complaints in theatrics.
Xavier briefly casts a sideways glance at you, gently nodding his head towards Sylus with a help me out here look in his eyes. A small pout plays across his face.
You inwardly sigh. Didn't you just decide to opt out of this repetitive debate? The same one they have almost every time you guys go out together since you've been dating? Before that, even?
Yet, apparently, it takes nothing at all for your resolve to crumble, so long as his pleading eyes are involved. In solidarity, you try to advocate for your partner. "Have you even tried anything like it before, Sy? It doesn't have any of the stuff that we know you hate. You might like it."
Still, he doesn't relent. Deadpan, he grumbles, "I'm full."
"You've had one appetizer," you and Xavier state with equal bluntness, in sync. You don't even question how you keep harmonizing like this anymore.
Sylus's mouth briefly twitches upward in what could almost count as a smile, but it passes before you can comment on it.
"I don't want to eat…" His eyes narrow with a blend of suspicion and disgust as they fall to the fork again, his mouth stretched into a tight line. "Concoctions. The smell of it alone leaves much to be desired."
"It smells pretty good to me," Xavier mumbles.
"We'll need to get your nose checked, then."
Another helpless glance is shared between you and Xavier. All it takes is a second-long, silent conversation for him to aim the fork back towards himself, biting down on its contents with a look of defeat.
Yet, neither of you can help the amused, loving grins that find their way to you both.
Neither of you would change your picky beloved for the world.
