Welcome back! Was so excited to see the next colony vid!
I just wanted to get some clarification because I noticed some... interesting things when I was checking out the marsh colony family tree. Specifically with Crowstalker and his kittens. Or, maybe not his kittens? What's going on there? :3c Or is it a spoiler?
It's a half-spoiler!
Even though we don't have time to explore every character in a book, we do like to have a world that feels alive. Things are happening in cats lives that may or may not play into the main story, but we can explore in little side story tangents.
Crowstalker has recently reunited with his mother, Crocus, the Unbound cat who brought him and his brother to Marsh Colony. She was injured and just gave birth to Night and Fog. Crowstalker helped her recover and took care of his younger siblings while she rested.
You'll probably remember from the video that I talked about how Crowstalker is more introspective. He lays awake wondering what would have happened if he had never been brought to Marsh Colony...
Spending time with Crocus and getting to know her helped resolve some of those lingering questions Crowstalker had. And in the long run, will give him some closure.
He knew his mother would ask him to take in Night and Fog, but Crowstalker decided to pretend to be the kittens father. He's adopted his siblings as his own for their sake and his. They'll face a little less stigma and Crowstalker can avoid questions surrounding his mother. Not that the Colony would ever turn the kittens away, but Crowstalker selfishly wants to keep his reunion with Crocus to himself. It was special for him. He also has a desire to be a better role model for Night and Fog than he was for his own kittens: Wildfur and Patch.
Crowstalker knows that his brother, Breezeheart, wouldn't understand his feelings. And might get in the way of raising Night and Fog if he knew the truth. So for now, it's Crowstalker's secret to keep. He hasn't decided when or if he will tell Night and Fog the truth one day.
