Jaskier was a little in shock. Processing his thoughts as he saw the huge creature in front of him. Truly⌠despite spending so much time with witchers, sorcerers and all sorts of adventures. He had never actually encountered a troll in the flesh.
Only in stories, songs and in the accounts of witnesses who saw or were related to these creatures. His first time seeing such a species was at that very moment.
âIf itâs no use running, is there any chance Iâll make it out of this little meeting of ours alive, kind sir?â Jaskier smiled nervously, planning a thousand escape plans. Or at the end he turns into a dragon as the final move. But prefer not to draw attention in any way if possible.
The Troll hadnât meant for his first words to come out so cryptically. Nor for the human to take Bruceâs words as a threat. And as the Troll slowly lumbered on all fours towards the stranger, his attention wasnât on the human; instead, his enormous head lowered in a predatory mannerâ like a cat steadying itself for a pounceâ and turned to scan the horizon to their right.
Outside the path and beyond the road, Bruce could smell them and hear the footfalls of paws gathering in the forest duff. They werenât wolves. Though Bruce wished they were. Wolves were less of a fight than the creatures that lurked just beyond the tree line. Bruce flared his nostrils and his gaze settled back on the newcomer to which the Troll drew close.
âPerhaps, liâl morsel,â Bruce admitted with a booming voice, low and rumbling like a growl. He gazed down at the human with one beady blue eye turned his direction. âIf the both of us are lucky, we wonât need to tussle with anyone today.â A pause, before the Troll turned toward the human completely. âYeâve got a weapon? Donât reckon a liâl bite like you would be out on the road without somethinâ, eh?â
