3 ⧽. what's something you like about your writing?

I genuinely think I am quite witty. And that I am actually good at making the internal monologue of a character fit their general mood. I have a very distinct style in my writing, and that certainly doesn't fit every character the same, but I can very reliably switch between the fast paced internal monologue of an anxious character and the witty, heavily sarcastic voice of another <3

Not to speak of my oneliners, which have gotten quite fun over the years :D

10 ⧽. what genre is generally the easiest or most enjoyable for you to write? which is the hardest?

Whump.

Very much so and very easily so. Give me a whump scenario, two characters or more, and half a day and I can give you tearjerking whump, no problem.

Now, slow emotionally plotty character driven works? I love them.

I also despair while writing them.

(and love stories - it's not that I cannot write people in love, I just suck at writing about them primarily being in love--- or, worse, falling in love)

18 ⧽. how do you want your writing to feel to your readers?

Emotionally evocative, I'd say. I want to give them a feeling, connect with something ugly or painful or lonely in their heart and then jank on it a little. To kickstart a little bit of healing, maybe. I don't know, really, but once I wrote a story about cooking food you've missed from home and people told me their stories of a lost meal a thousand miles away from home, and once I wrote about feeling so lonely you start hurting your friends, and people told me of how often they've come close to doing the same.

So maybe it's that. That connection.

There are things Sam can’t talk about with his parents. Adam is one of those. “So— how is your YouTube show going?” His dad is trying. Maybe that’s what counts. “Jet Lag’s been pulling numbers. We’re almost at 800k subscribers.” “And your… friends?”  His mom struggles to remember their names. It only hurts a little. “Ben and Adam.” “Yes.” “They’re—” Sam swallows down the truth. “They’re fine. Adam’s outlined a documentary for me, and I think it could be the next big thing on Nebula. He’s really into directing these days, kinda amazing, actually. He’s kinda amazing.” That’s close enough.

i knew i was sitting on this one but didn't realize until i opened it up today to answer that it was sent july 17. hi.

top of the list is probably Sorrow is an autumn heart. (T, 39k) TMNT/Usagi Yojimbo crossover that makes the Rise cast natives of Usagi's world. It's a plotty mystery and I got to put a lot of rich detail in and it's something where I feel like I managed to execute everything I wanted to do when I started.

i can't really put all of mushroomverse, so I'm just going to put Credo In Us, (T, 5k) the one with the Cybertronian holiday about telling Unicron to put up or shut up. it's a fic that helped me realize how much I could expand this world into, and how much I enjoyed playing with worldbuilding.

This is a throwback, but I still have fond feelings about empty your sadness, the YJ/Sense8 fusion. I think it's one of the most coherent and concise DCU fics I ever did and every scene has something that I enjoyed doing so much.

Another one where I feel like I nailed the execution as much as I liked the concept - heart's still beating, guess I'm pretty lucky, the Simpatico TFA fic. I was trying to balance so many things with it and a lot of them came off in a way I'm very pleased with. a narrator with no emotions was such a fun exercise.

The European Roadtrip AU was my answer to all the FMA Modern AU fics that were inexplicably American when FMA is clearly influenced by the UK and Germany. I mean, look at their particular flavor of fascism!

And it turned into this asdfghjkl

"When we planned this whole endeavour, we might have forgotten one important detail... none of us are legally allowed to drive." The shocked silence was only interrupted by the cheerful song of the birds veering for attention in the linden above. Berlin in early spring didn't yet smell of car fumes and wet concrete, the first flowers blooming all around them as if they had forgotten that this was Germany's largest (and probably dirtiest) city. "But you said you knew how to drive a car!" Mei was the first to recover, her black and white cat hiding in the hood of her sweater - probably planning its next attack. Ed threw his arm up in exasperation. "I can! I have a learner's permit, and Izumi's been taking me out on empty country lanes since I was fourteen! As long as the car's an automatic, I can drive it!"  "So, what's the problem then?" "I'm not eighteen yet? If a cop stops us and wants to see my driver's license we're fucked. Busted. Dead. They have to take one look at us and it's over."

Most of the outlined plot for this one can be summed up with "they are idiots, your honor" <3

I have thought a lot about Casey Jr interacting with the Brownie Scouts, especially my gaggle of Brownie Scout OCs from vfp.... this is one of those docs. unsettling teenager CJJ meets a bunch of unsettling preteens <3

"Cassandra Jones Jr," the caller said, their voice obviously distorted in order to disguise their identity. Casey froze, nearly dropping the phone in his shock, but he managed to scramble himself together just in time to grab the phone and hear whatever the caller had to say. "Your assistance is required."

He waited, not saying anything for a second, but the caller didn't seem to have any interest in continuing. "...How did you get this number?" he asked, trying to keep the strain out of his voice. He'd only been in this timeline for what, like six months? What had he done to attract a creepy stalker? He knew it was a bad idea to give him a legal paper trail.

14. what’s your worst writing habit?

over summarizing has been a big one recently. I keep front loading all the little details about how a character gets into a situation. I am constantly writing like three or four paragraphs and then gradually breaking them up and expanding them

31. tell us about one of your characters who’s an absolute joy to write

rn my brain is high key stuck on Heidi Armistead, baby's first blorbo. she originated in an RP I was in in 2009-13ish? and then me and my friend just kept messing around with all the characters. she's a bloodbender with anger management issues and a big ol' fear of abandonment. stubborn and extremely willing to slam her head into her problems until something gives. ❤️ the fact that I was so surprised about being as taken as I am with Casey Jones is actually really funny, considering.
