It will never lose its marvel, he thinks, blinking away sleep, to wake up by Rook's side. More than that â they are a tangle of limbs, unwilling to part even as consciousness eluded them, his arms around their body, their form held tightly, tenderly, against his.
Lucanis is content to let his gaze linger, loving in its study of every mark upon their face. Rook's breathing is soft, almost imperceptible, almost in sync with his. Whether dreamless or not, it is peaceful slumber â rest that does not come easily, but that they can find in his arms, the rest of the world unable to reach them if only for a few hours.
They look beautiful like this; they always do, but certain lights accentuate it perfectly. Silver hair bathed in soft golden light, there is something of ethereal in them that leaves him mesmerized. It calls him to worship; Lucanis had not meant to risk disturbing them, but his fingertips tentatively brush their back, then thread gently through silver locks. His lips do not take long to follow, all reverence as they press upon Rook's shoulder, jaw, cheek, temple â a string of tender devotion he cannot hold back from.
rook hums in content at the vague feeling of lips against their skin, too deep in sleep to understand it fully at first. slowly, they come to, their head shifting against lucanis' body as they recognize a morning greeting they're familiar with by now. the corner of rook's mouth curves upwards softly, their eyes fluttering between open and closed as they try to will away sleep. waking up like this, skin against skin with the man they love, they've never felt more at peace. "morning," they murmur, the grogginess of sleep tugging at the edges of their words. the warmth of lucanis' embrace envelops them, and the weight of his arm around her body offers rook a sense of safety they have been rarelyâup until nowâbeen fortunate enough to feel. rook shifts slightly as they look up at him, smiling gently. "miss me that much?" they tease, voice still thick with sleep. still, rook can't resist from pressing a kiss of their own to lucanis' chest, then his jaw, all before a hum slips from their lips and they settle back down against him.
