So something been heavily on my mind since Sunday night. As most of you all know I been driving for lyft for the last month only. This past Sunday night, I received a request from a 3rd party to pick up a passenger in Riverdale, GA and deliver him to an address in College Park, GA at around 12:45am. Ten minutes into the ride I realized this passenger was not just very drunk, but angrily drunk at that. He started to get very belligerent with me, asking me who was paying for the ride. I assured him the requester was paying and that he had nothing to worry about. This still was not good enough answer for him. Then he proceeded to reach toward the front of the car and was trying to mess with the radio dials. I kept asking him to please sit back and he was giving me issues. Then he started saying how he hated people. Then he asked me where am I taking him. And so I told him I was taking him to the address the requester put. So he says that he not going to the address and that I needed to take him back to where I picked him up at. At this point. I called the guy that requested the ride and I had him on speakerphone so he can hear all the stuff this guy was saying. He was trying to talk to the passenger and let him know that he couldn't come back there and that he needed to let me take him to the address that he gave me. Next thing I know the passenger says that if I don't take him back to where I picked him up at, then he was going to shoot me and pulled out a gun. So I freaked out and just pulled into the nearest gas station off of old national highway and stopped the car. I politely asked the passenger to get out the car. I didn't want to take him to the destination cuz I was scared. He finally got out the car and then I quickly locked the doors and burned rubber before he could react. I contacted lyft support and let them know everything and then filed a police report. I could have gotten shot or killed. I then sat and cried for about 30 minutes because I couldn't believe that had just taken place but it was enough to make me not want to drive anymore for the rest of the night. You see lyft has this incentive program that you can use a rental car to drive for them and if you do 45 rides within 7 days then you don't pay for the rental car. I was only 14 rides away from my quota but in light of what had just happened I wasn't mentally prepared to keep driving. I asked lyft if they would please waive the rental car requirement for this week as o wasn't in the mindset to continue driving that night. I actually won't drive at night anymore since the incident. I have yet to hear back from lyft in response to my request although I did receive a personal call from the critical response team at lyft letting me know that the requester account has been deactivated but that not going to stop someone from creating a new account with a different email address. Now I get this weeks pay statement and see I was charged for the rental car which leave me 28 bucks to last me the whole week, meanwhile I pay for our hotel room by the week. I think lyft not responding is sending a strong message to the driver community that our lives do not mean much of anything unless we were probably actually shot or god forbid killed. So now how do I pay for our room this week when I only got paid 28 bucks. That is saying lyft does not care about my life as a driver. What would you do if you were in my shoes? Would you ask for a waiver or not?
