Lorna had many roles when it came to interfering in the lives of her friends; one she had not been expecting, however, was semi-permanent petsitter. Her best friend had been out of the country, living it up in Paris, for months at this point, leaving Lorna to care for his excitable puppy.
Cinnamon was as sweet as could be, of course, but she was getting tired of having to actually get out of bed to take her outside, constantly have plastic bags in her pocket, fill her car with newspaper and chewed-up dog toys. But what could she do?
It was nearing noon on a sunny Saturday; Lorna had missed her alarm, and within fifteen minutes the breath was knocked out of her by the large huffy husky pouncing into bed with her. “You’re such a brat,” she grumbled, peeling herself out of bed to get dressed.
She let the puppy lead her on their usual path to the park, admiring the weather in silence. Lorna gazed off into the distance, already growing weary again; the next thing she knew Cinnamon was tugging on her restraints, almost yanking the leash from the girl’s grasp. Alarmed, she glanced up, only to see the puppy with her nose squashed to a little girl’s leg, sniffing at her, tail wagging so fast it blurred.
“Oh, gosh. Stop that, you!” Half heartedly she tugged in the leash, to no avail. In defeat Lorna turned her gaze to the man she presumed to be the girl’s father. “I’m sorry,” she sighed, tightening her grip on the leash. “She’s really friendly, I promise, just a bit ...... excitable is all.”
