DID YOU KNOW...
Today is the 64th birthday of legendary illustrator, Philip Lawvere, who created iconic cover artworks for bands like Kreator, Celtic Frost, Ballantinez, Warrant and Rage, among others.
According to Lawvere's website, the American-born artist suggested the change of Kreator's original name (Creatur). In Phil's opinion, Creatur "sounded a little dated...changing it to a kind of omnipotent, destructive CREATOR god, spelled with a K, would appeal more to the youth of the day."
We're including in this post a special piece of Metal art history: The original logo sketches Phil Lawevere designed for the German Thrash band (the Creatur and Kreator options). Read more about this topic and check Lawvere's portfolio at his official website https://philiplawvere.com
