Family Art Time yesterday with my dear pals Neila (aka gramma,) Chelsea (aka mom,) and Carrie (age 10.) Such fun playing with shapes and colors, drawing, carving, and painting. Dear Althea @altheadesignsmv invited us to use her studio since mine’s not ready and Featherstone is closed til mid January. What a sun lovely spot! So cozy! And we were surrounded by her inspiring block prints and work by other artists too. Really super! I’ll definitely keep offering this workshop. What do you think about black in the bottom of bowls? White is traditional. It looks clean and fresh. I have primarily used black for about a decade now because of this photo right here. There are only 2 glazes on this tea bowl. The yellow and the black, but look at all those colors in between. Purple, blue, green, and some of my glazes get an iridescent gold along the edge of the drip - but these only happen over a cobalt black. From chaos to calm That’s what creativity does for me. When I’m painting or art journaling I’m in flow. It’s like time stands still and everything else drops away. If I’m feeling jangled before I start, I’m not anymore. It’s my grounding. I love it. I’m utterly looking forward to spending a weekend painting. A whole weekend. Yesss. Wild Painting is a whole weekend with permission to paint and paint large. Here there are no mistakes. Everything is about process, play, mark making, experimentation. I do have some space but tomorrow will be the last day I can order the full set of materials for you!! 100 x 100cm canvases and foam brushes are available to buy on site.
