08.08 - “Android’s Best Friend” - Because it’s National 🐱Cat🐱 Day, today’s look pays homage to everyone’s favorite friend-shaped machine and his feline companion: Data and Spot. I realize this is the second cats in space look I’ve done this challenge, but we’ve all gotta have some consistency in life. I really love how this look turned out, even if it’s one of those “sweating off during application” days. I was considering accenting everything in brown and bronze instead of grey and silver, but I’m glad I went with the latter combo. I’ve always loved the contrast between grey and orange, and I think it’s very reminiscent of the color contrast in Data’s uniform/overall design. 07.29 - “Shallow Waves” - It’s been another day that hasn’t quite started until the afternoon. The big experiments here lie in the application of the shadow and the color of the brows. I started my shadow from the inner corners and worked out today, but then I liked the way the first color turned out so much I didn’t want to add the other blue on top of it! In an attempt to get a little more of the dark blue on my face I decided to finish my eyebrows off with it. That didn’t look QUITE right, so I put more of my standard powder on it and it magically turned out the color of my lips, tying the whole thing together. Keeping with the water theme, I went a little overboard with the silver spots on my face. The first week is up! Tomorrow I’ll have used every color on the pallet and the mixing and matching of old familiars will commence! 07.25 - “Gummy Worm Gods” - Surprise! It’s only day three and we’re already breaking with the monochrome look. Despite the fact that I wanted to do something simple that would give my skin some time to breathe (did I mention I’m prone to eczema on my eyelids? HAHA, yes! I do know how ridiculous that makes this challenge sound now), I just kept adding things! Then I stabbed myself in the eye with gold eyeliner and another signature Clark tear was born. I think I’ve more than made up for my lack of creativity in shape and signature with my use of color, though. Would I put yellow on my eyebrows again? The circumstances would need to be very, very specific. 08.12 - “Rose Cats” - Behold! The last look of Three Bright Weeks, AND the look I will be wearing to go pet some cats for my birthday today (I’ll probably redo the lips w/o the sparkles b/c there will be coffee involved). I wanted to end with just one color because . . . Well, because it’s my challenge and it’s my birthday and I like this pink and I do what I want *bats a mug off the counter I know I’m not supposed to be sitting on while maintaining steely eye contact with you.* I hope you’ve all enjoyed seeing my face bedecked in all the colors of the rainbow (well, all the colors of the NYX Ultimate shadow palette, at least) these past three weeks. 08.11 - “Rainbow” - It’s ‘Rainbow’ release day! It’s been my plan to do something Kesha related for today since the beginning of this challenge. I’ve listened to the album about three times all the way through, and I’m already excited to blare it on my next road trip. For this look I wanted to really lean in to brightness and embrace asymmetry. I drew inspiration from the cover when selecting the colors for today (while we may have moved past two-tone looks, I still managed to build a ‘Rainbow’ palette without combining any shadows that had already been paired before). The brows ended up being a little bolder than I’d intended, but I think I managed to take some of the starkness out of them with the silver glitter. After all, can you really call something an @iiswhoiis -inspired look if you don’t use glitter? 08.09 - “Frantic” - Today I wanted to do a quick look that conveyed how stressed I was feeling this morning. My day’s a little off-schedule and adjusting to that was apparently too much for my brain to handle. Anywho! If I had more time I think I could’ve achieved something nebular in appearance. As it stands, I think the “too bright to actually be discreet” masque turned out just fine. 08.01 - “Symbol and Ceremony” - Happy August! Hope you are all excited for my birth month and have hella contingency plans for when the temperature of the air exceeds that of your body. Nothing particularly exciting going on with the shape of the shadow today, I just wanted to wear these colors together. It took me a while to decide between three lip colors for this look, but I ultimately settled on auburn because it felt softer than black and more subdued than bright orange. I think it adds to the strength of the eyes without detracting too much attention from them. The eight dots are my way of saying hello to the eighth month of the year. And, of course, I do love it when my finished product feels as ritualistic as the process of putting my makeup on. 07.26 - “Sleeping Barbie” - Getting out of bed today was difficult as was getting up the motivation to put goop and powder on my face. So! Why not do a ‘Sleeping Beauty’ inspired look? I wanted to convey something a little raw and a little messy and tap in to the eighties (I’ll be doing that a lot) while not letting go of how worn out I feel. The wings on my shadow weren’t doing QUITE what I wanted them to be, but the brows look badass and the subdued pink of the lips are a nice compliment to the hyper-saturated colors on the eyes. Over all I’m happy with how things turned out!
