FebYGO Challenge #14 (I cheated)
14) Favorite ship (romantic)
So I’m technically cheating by talking about two ships at once, but considering me and like two other people are the only ones who actually ship this one couple, I don’t think it’ll count.
So! The two ships are MarikxTea (manipulashipping) and YugixChizuru (craneshipping). Craneshipping (also called YugiChi/YugiChizu or even Yugizuru) is a crossover ship between the protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, Yugi Muto, and the protagonist of Hakuouki: Shinsengumi Kiten, Chizuru Yukimura.
Now Imma quickly dedicate some time to why I ship manipulaship, since it’s the actual ship in this post. I ship these two for several reasons. Angst is one reason, another is the hurt/comfort and fluff that’ll come from this couple. It’s one that is complex, will take a lot of time for them to get to the point of fluff, but along the way will come drama and angst and comedy.
Don’t get me wrong; peachship is super healthy and twenty times more canon but... see that just doesn’t work for me. Being healthy or canon doesn’t make me ship something. What makes me ship something (and this applies to all my ships) is the potential I see. I gotta feel the chemistry, not just nod and accept it. As cute as both Peachshipping and Vaseshipping are, I don’t necessarily ship them to the same degree as Craneship or Manipulaship.
To me, the ship needs to interest me, and typically I go for the more philosophical ships. Childhood friends aren’t necessarily a turn off for me, but they can take away from the strangers-bonding-becoming-friends-then-romantic-partners.
It’s the journey I enjoy more than anything for shipping. If the feelings are kinda already there, I get bored. I need the back-and-forth, I need the drama, the angst, the comedy, total opposites (or characters so similar it hurts) interacting and finding common ground. I need fire and brimstone, iron sharpening iron. Gimme that sweet action!
Now to quickly discuss my thoughts on craneshipping...
