These Old Fashioned Saltine Cracker Cakes are a fun and nostalgic treat. They have the crunch of saltine crackers and a sweet caramel and chocolate topping. Just what you need to satisfy your sweet tooth!
Ingredients: 1 sleeve of saltine crackers. 1/2 cup unsalted butter. 1 cup brown sugar. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips. 1/2 cup chopped nuts optional. 1/4 teaspoon sea salt optional.
Instructions: Start by heating the oven to 350F 175C. Put parchment paper or a silicone baking mat on the bottom of a baking sheet. Spread out the saltine crackers on the baking sheet that has been prepared. While the butter is on medium heat, melt it in a medium-sized saucepan. Add the brown sugar and stir it in. Cook until the sugar is gone and the mixture starts to bubble. That's how long it should take. Take the pan off the heat and add the vanilla extract. Spread the hot caramel mixture out over the saltine crackers in a thin layer. If you need to, use a spatula to spread it out. Put the baking sheet in the oven that has already been heated and bake for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the caramel topping is bubbly and has turned a little darker. After taking the baking sheet out of the oven, sprinkle the semisweet chocolate chips over the hot caramel right away. Let them sit for one minute to soften. Then, use a spatula to spread the chocolate over the crackers and caramel in an even layer. If you want to add more flavor and texture, you can sprinkle chopped nuts and a pinch of sea salt on top of the melted chocolate. Let the cracker cakes cool all the way down on the baking sheet. Putting them in the fridge for about 30 minutes will help them cool down faster. Break the saltine cracker cakes into pieces after they have cooled down completely and the chocolate has hardened. As a sweet and salty treat, enjoy your Old Fashioned Saltine Cracker Cakes!
