forty   five   minute   drive   turned   an   hour   long   with   miami   traffic   spent   with   feet   resting   against   the   dashboard,   wind   blowing   against   her   hair,   music   never   finding   a   cohesive   shift   with   songs   shuffled   by   turn.   each   minute   that   passed   was   a   chip   at   rocky,   distance   coaxing   the   true   nature   of   the   girl   out.   bell   above   the   diner   door   signaling   their   arrival,   heat   from   the   body   not   far   behind   her   transferring   over   as   the   door   that   was   held   open   swings   behind   them,   notions   of   being   greeted   and   sat   pass   in   a   blink.   hand   against   back   sliding   her   into   the   seat.     “    don't   know   if   this   has   the   same   vibe   as   our   beach   plans,    ”       only   spoken   when   the   waitress   walks   away   with   their   drink   orders.   the   way   her   ass   was   planted   in   the   booth   seat,   tongue   poking   out   to   swipe   against   her   bottom   lip,   fingers   carefully   holding   onto   the   sticky   menu,   there's   no   real   reason   for   her   to   complain.   and   it's   not   a   true   protest,   can't   be   with   the   grin   she   sends   his   way.   still,     “    but,   i   guess,   it'll   do.    ”       menu   abandoned   on   the   table,   the   first   read   through   always   a   show,   the   type   to   always   get   the   same   thing   wherever   she   went.   legs   tangled   up   underneath   the   booth,     “    what're   ya   gettin'   cowboy?    ”

ROME  WASN'T  IN  THE  MOOD  FOR  THIS  SHIT.   not   after   what   just   went   down.   his   knuckles   ached,   blood   still   buzzing   hot   in   his   veins,   but   cooling   off   had   to   wait—because   the   first   person   he   saw   when   he   stepped   back   into   the   club   was   him.   julian.   of   fucking   course.   he   exhales   sharply,   shaking   his   head   as   he   stalked   up   without   hesitation,   shoulders   tense,   jaw   tight.   no   greeting,   no   warning—just   venom   laced   in   his   words   as   he   let   them   fly.   ❝ yo !  your  boy  harvey ? ❞   his   voice   was   sharp,   biting.   ❝ yeah,   keep  your  fucking  dog  on  a  leash. ❞

struck by sudden inspiration (and fuelled by a drink and a half), sloane clips her own wings to present them to someone who she feels needs them much more. now, despite the rest of his outfit clearly not being valentine's influenced whatsoever, julian was finally getting into the proper groove of things. “told you you'd look good with them on.” she whistles, low and appreciative. “now c'mon, why don'tcha do a spin for me, sweetheart?”

🎀      :      body  offered  its  share  of  life  skills.   other  people  may  find  it  a  comical  viewpoint,   but  the  workers  there  knew  differently.   working  at  miami's  best  strip  club  also  meant  working  with  miami's  most  insufferable.   survival  skills  were  a  must  to  stay  afloat  &  every  working  girl  had  a  specialty,   whether  they  claimed  it  or  not.   rhiannon's  specialty  happened  to  be  people  coding.   with  one  look,   she  would  pinpoint  what  category  they  fell  into:   meek,  handsy,  impressionable,  loaded,  guilty,  rowdy…   the  list  drags  on.   on  crowded  nights,  it  had  become  a  game  to  see  if  she  still  has  it—   &  she  does,   apparently  !   she  walks  up  to  bambi  with  raised  brows  &  an  excited  grin.   in  her  hands,   a  worn  leather  wallet  from  some  total  loser  at  the  bar.   〝   some  people  make  it  too  easy,   bam.   〞   as  soon  as  she's  standing  shoulder-to-shoulder  with  the  other,   she  opens  the  wallet  &  pulls  whatever  remnants  of  cash  out.   〝   recognized  someone  from  body.   regular  from  like,   two  years  ago.   put  a  hand  on  his  chest  &  his  entire  brain  short  circuited,  i  swear.   〞

         the crowd had thinned out enough for hawk to breathe, & when he caught sight of them, something flickered in his expression — not quite a smile, but not far from it, either. his shoulders, usually so tense, seemed to ease just slightly as they took them in, a quiet moment of recognition that he didn’t bother to overthink.  ❛  you made it. thought you might’ve bailed. not that i’d blame you.  ❜  the words came with a dry chuckle, their tone lighter than usual. he shifted his weight, leaning against the wall as if to ground themselves, gaze flicking briefly toward the door before settling back on opposite.  ❛  or maybe you just got tired of being social. or pretending you like everyone.  ❜  there was something unspoken in the way he said it, a hint that he didn’t mind their company — not that they'd come right out & say it.

         leaning against the bar, hawk was nursing his drink like it owed him something, the liquid catching the light as he tilted it idly. when their voice cut through the din, he barely turned, jaw tightening like he was considering whether it was worth responding.  ❛  listen, i was asked not to get into anything tonight... so if you could just leave me alone, i think it’d save me from getting yelled at. & i also just... don't care what you're saying.  ❜  his words cut through the music, deliberate & unkind. gaze had only lifted to meet the others briefly, immediate roll of his eyes before they’re downing their drink.
