Like, I’m not here defending the guards (although I do believe there are tiers of them, like some of them know a lot more than some dude who was hired for a summer job and is sitting outside any actual rooms while someone else is on lunchbreak, possibly. I just don’t think he’s privy to all the same things people behind the large doors were, people who have worked there for decades are.), but like... He got mindfucked, saw literal blood and guts everywhere when he came to, screams of his comrades (because they weren’t even dead yet then when concentration dropped) and he was afraid for his damn life. If he cowered in corner, there was chance he’d be killed on their way out, or disposed of by his employer. Of course he ran away from there.

Like even without logic, first and human thought would be to get the fuck away from there. It’s not ‘ew self preserving thing disregarding how sweet Jester was to him’. Come on. Some woman just cast thought changing magic on you to get information out of you and is now aiding brutal murder/fight. You won’t go ‘ah but she was soooo sweet’ in that moment. You will just fucking flee. And of course, raising alarm is natural next step because when he barges in somewhere, the are questions and so on and so forth.

Just. Yeah.

I don’t have any particular fondness for any of these guards or even Cymie, but the condemnation is so odd, like they expected him to wake up from being charmed and then go help them kill the guards, when even charmed goes like this:“If the service or activity might cause harm to the creature, or if it conflicts with the creature's normal activities and desires, the creature can make another Wisdom saving throw to try to end the effect.”

So actually ordering him to assist in the kills would potentially end the spell.

I know we love our heroes, but there was literally no reason for any sort of allegiance or loyalty toward them from Cymie that people seem to expect just because she charmed him instead of immediately killing him.
