DOOONT because ive been thinking about this since you sent it in and its stuck with me. this was meant to be like.. an answer to an ask with no much elaboration but. FUCK im so into this idea i couldnt help myself hhhh
you hear about a local nicknamed 'cheshire' due to his big grin he usually has on his face, and everyone deems him as the friendliest person in the area. turns out your lucky enough to be staying just a few doors down from him, according to the woman you're going to be doing housework for tells you.
you don't see this supposed 'cheshire' at all on your first day, in fact it takes a couple days before you see him. you're hanging out the laundry on the the ranch's clothing line. granted it's.. a bit wonky, and the breeze isn't helping as you try to hang the clothes up.
"that post's been leaning for just about a year now," comes a low, aussie drawl, and it catches you by surprise. you do a 180 and you're met with a— oh.
though you've never seen him before, you can tell who it is. you've never seen someone with such a grin, and after all the stories you've been told...
"sorry to spook you, miss," he apologises, still smiling wide. he tips his hat at you before continuing to speak. "name's daniel, but you might hear me be referred to as—"
"cheshire," you interrupt, finding yourself smiling at the way his face lit up. he walks closer, leaning on the small fence that separates the land between you.
"so you've already heard of me, huh?" "not much, just the story behind your nickname," you tease softly, fluttering sensations arriving in your chest as he lets out a low chuckle.
"well i'd like to hear about you, miss. no matter how much or how little," he winks, and you can feel the flush on your face instantly. you try to think of how to reply— if you should tease or give in— but you're both interrupted by a voice coming from your ranch, the homeowner calling you in for breakfast.
"i guess i'd better let you go," he surrenders, standing up straight as he flashes you another bright smile. it's only then that you really take him in...
tanned skin, a fluffy, grown beard that matches the curls that escape from under his tan cattleman. his flannel has a few popped buttons, which allow the dark chest hair trapped within have some air to breathe. the sleeves are rolled up, leaving his hairy, toned arms on display, allowing you to imagine the rest of him.
you quickly shake yourself from those thoughts, giving him a shy smile in return for the last time that morning. "yeah, yeah— i'll see you around, cheshire," you wave him off, before picking up the small basket and heading back inside.
you swear you hear him call you sweetheart just before you shut the door, but you come to the conclusion your mind is getting carried away with itself.
