Today is a heartbreaking day for Rome, GA. 💔

Our old courthouse — a place every one of us has walked into at some point (especially for those yearly vehicle tags) — is gone. Just like that… a building full of memories, history, and everyday moments that tied our community together.

This wasn’t just any building. The Floyd County Courthouse, built in 1892 (completed around 1893), stood as a symbol of our town’s strength and history for well over a century. Designed in the Romanesque Revival style by architects Alexander C. Bruce & Thomas H. Morgan, it was even built using steel rails left behind from railroads destroyed during the Civil War. If you loved history, this one really hurts.

It saw generations come and go, families grow, and our small town continue to stand proud. It was one of those places you never really thought about… until it wasn’t there anymore.

It’s strange how something so routine — standing in line, waiting your turn, maybe even dreading it — suddenly becomes something you wish you could do just one more time.

Prayers for everyone affected and for our community as we process this loss. Rome has always been strong… and we will be again. ❤️
