Day 3: Favorite Guest Character - Count Friedrich & Meg
I honestly couldn’t just pick one on this because I enjoyed both of these guest characters so much.
At first you think Count Friedrich isn’t going to be an ally and that’s he’s really just in it to flirt with Marian and be an idiot, but the Count actually surprises the audience with revealing that he knows that’s what others think of him and he’s just playing the part, but there is more to him underneath...and I think it’s awesome. Once he realizes the Sheriff is trying to make a fool of him, he ends up helping Marian and the two become an awesome tag team together where he ends up giving some of his money in the end to Robin Hood, helps Marian move around the castle freely (and making Guy jealous) and forms an awesome friendship with Marian and the gang before leaving back to Germany.
I couldn’t leave Meg out of this because I actually really loved her character too. She’s only introduced to us in one episode as well, but in that moment she stands up bravely and proud calling out all the terrible men in her lives to which she is being arrested for. She ends up in the dungeons of course, but I love the interaction she has with Guy. Reminding her a lot of Marian, the two click as she sympathizes for him and everything he has gone through, stating there must still be some good in him. The two click and try to save each other (unsuccessfully sadly). In the battle to free themselves, Meg goes to save Guy’s life and ends up mortally wounded. An even tender and heartbreaking scene unfolds after between them as Guy comforts a dying Meg in his arms, even giving her a kiss before crying about her death. I think this moment right here is when Guy officially changes his ways for good and I thought it was such an important, substantial moment, and all because of Meg.
