30 Days of Robin Hood: Day 13- Favorite Quote
I'm torn on which to use for this, so I'm narrowing it down to three. There were some quotes I wanted to include just because of how funny they were, but ultimately, I decided to choose quotes that were more meaningful to me than trying to narrow down all the funny lines I love to just one that I could pick.
1. First one is more of a scene than a quote, but whatever, the last part of it is what I'm really focusing on here for "favorite quote":
Allan: Djaq.
Djaq: Later.
Allan: Are you alright?
Djaq: There's a spy in the camp. How can anything be alright?
Allan: He probably knows he's made a mistake now.
Djaq: He had his chance to confess.
Allan: Maybe he's stuck. people get stuck, y'know.
Djaq: Your brother said he was stuck. He refused to change and he hanged for it.
Allan: He was an idiot.
Djaq: No! He was a good man underneath it. And you saw that. I believe Robin would see it too. If the spy confessed...and begged for forgiveness. If he changed his ways.
Djaq: I believe you're a good man, Allan A Dale.
I was originally just going to go with "I believe you're a good man, Allan A Dale" or at least include everything from "No!" but I'm putting the whole scene here even though I don't know if it counts.
I love this short exchange because it's so perfect. Of course Allan would go to Djaq instead of anyone else in the gang and of course she already knows (and has suspected for awhile) that he's the traitor and also knows exactly what to say. After all, she was the one who comforted him after his brother died. She is the one who's also been through that and knew what he went through and was probably also trying to remind him that the people he's betraying them to are the ones responsible for his brother's death. And of course he would be afraid of being like his brother, it's probably weighed on him the whole time. At the end, she lets him know that she knows it's him and also reminds him that she still has faith in his goodness anyway, and all he can do is walk away with a surprised and scared look on his face. It really shows that she's the only one that had constant faith in him, even when he disappointed her, that she understood him the best, and that he trusted her the most. If she'd been there in season three, I'm certain she would have taken his side at the end and would have believed him. This scene is a perfect example of why they are my otp.
2. Second quote I'm going to go with is:
Robin: "For every man there is a purpose which he sets up in his life. Let yours be the doing of all good deeds."Â That's us, lads.
Will: Is that the Bible?
Robin: It's the Qur'an.
Will: What's that?
Much: It's the Turk Bible. He read it in the Holy Land.
Allan: Why?
Robin:Â I wanted to know what it was that we were fighting.
Specifically the first line of the quote, where Robin quotes the Qur'an and says "That's us lads."Â The fact that the show is centered around a famous crusader and supporter of King Richard, though it uses a quote from the Qur'an to explain why they are doing what they're doing and to inspire the gang, I think is very interesting and very important that they put that in. It sets the tone that this show has a modern, fair outlook and hate towards Islam or Muslims isn't going to be a part of it. It shows two sides to the Crusades and the time period (as does Djaq and Malik and Basaam). I like that they showed Robin as being open minded and the part of the quote "I wanted to know what it was that we were fighting" shows that Robin realized that the the Crusades were wrong, because once he realized what they were actually fighting against, he also realized that he agrees with some of it and allows himself to be inspired by it and uses the Qur'an to inspire his men.
3. Finally, the third quote has more of a personal significance to me that has less to do with the show:
Much: And just because I love you doesn't mean I can't hate you too.
I love this quote because I relate to it and I think it's completely true. People always act like you can't love and hate someone at the same time, but you can. I know you can because I feel/have felt that way toward someone. Like Much, I can recognize when someone is treating me terribly and when I'm trying way more than they are in our unequal relationship, and I can get angry and literally hate them for it, but I can't bring myself to stop loving them and not really sure that I'd want to if I could and I still go out of my way for them anyway.
