Guys, I have a personal story to tell and I know a lot of you can relate. There are some characters that I want to cosplay. I want to cosplay them so hard that I already have everything to make the cosplay! One thing will always hold me back: I’m a very petite, white, trans man. I have been discouraged from certain cosplays because I’m “Not the right colour for such an amazing character” or “You’re too damn skinny”. For a long period of time I’ve wanted to cosplay certain characters that I fell in love with but I’m not the same colour or size. Coplay is supposed to be about dressing as a character than you love or really enjoy. Many cosplay characters who’ve had a special meaning in their life. So please, if someone is csplaying a character they aren’t the right “size” or “colour” for, but they are happy and they truly LOVE the character, please let them be happy. That character might have helped them through depression, or remind them of a person they look up to. Cosplay is about having fun, regardless of race, size, gender, height, etc. Life is too short to not have fun. If you absolutely HAVE to say something to someone, offer constructive criticism or even offer to give them instruction if they are your friend. Keep the cosplay spirit alive. #cosplayequality
