â« Â five times my muse swears itâs not a date, and the one time it maybe is.
i. It did not take much convincing for Rhys to agree to come with Jonas, to one or another invite he had gotten â Rhys barely even knew one of the names the other male had stated, but it was more than enough to him that Jonas was going to be there. So he just nodded in response, muttering a quiet: âOkay, itâs a date then.â When he finally realized what he had said, his eyes widened a bit and he chuckled. âI mean, itâs not? I just meant â okay, you know what I meant.â
ii. It was a couple of nights later, and Rhys couldnât sleep. Whenever he closed his eyes, he never got past the stage of yawning, wanting to go to sleep, but not being able to. So he put on a sweater, to protect himself from the cold before sneaking over to Jonasâ cabin. He ended up dragging the blonde towards the lake, where they had sat for a couple of hours, simply talking (maybe shivering from the cold slightly, but each otherâs company making up for it). And no, this wasnât a date. This was just two friends, hanging out together, maybe sitting a bit too closely to be called just friends.
iii. Midnight meet ups became a regular thing. Whenever everyone was fast asleep, Rhys would sneak up to Jonasâ cabin, just knocking on the door to get the male to come out. This night, Jonas had managed to drag Rhys into the water, diving in and letting the cold water hit him. He came up again, right in front of Jonas, gazes locked as Rhys leaned in slowly, before dragging Jonasâ body under water with him. But this wasnât a date. This was just two friends, hanging out together, maybe staring at each other for slightly too long.
iv. It was past summer camp by now â however that didnât mean that Jonas and Rhys lost contact. No, no, that wasnât the case. Because they went out together sometimes still, like now, when Rhys had urged Jonas to come see the new Captain America movie with him, insisting to pay the tickets for them because it was just law that Jonas had to see this movie. But it wasnât a date, not even when they ended up being scowled at by the rest of the crowd for disrupting the movie for playfully throwing popcorn at each other to distract them. No, it wasnât a date. It was just the two of them, together... already long past the stage of being friends. But it wasnât a date, is what Rhys swore.
v. Summer camp had passed, but summer had been long gone as well by now. Now it had been Jonas, who ended up dragging Rhys along. To the ice skating rink. Jonas had promised heâd teach Rhys not to fall down on his bum anymore, but quite frankly he didnât seem to be suited for ice skating (and he despised the other male for being able to do so). But every time again, Jonas held out his hand again to pull him up, and gently kept hold of his hand during Rhysâ following attempt. But no, it wasnât a date, was it?
+1 âI know itâs Valentineâs Day, and I know this is probably just sappy, and stupid,â Rhys muttered quietly, as he glanced up at Jonas. âBut I have a dinner reservation booked for tonight, and I wanted to ask you if you wanted to come with me. As a date, I guess. A proper date.â
